Find a great deal on Used Cars For Sale at LemonFree.com Cars

Q: What should I charge to post used cars for sale on Ebay?
I have my own photography business and want to help used car dealers sell their cars either on Ebay or creating a webpage for them as I have experience in web design also.

A: I would charge a minimum of $250 for your work, plus all fees incured.

Q: What websites can I find used cars for sale on?
Im looking for a website like craigslist and the want ad to find used cars in the albany ny area. Anyone know of any sites?

A: autotrader.com, cars.com, ebay and craigslist are all popular.

Q: Questions to ask when buying a used cars? For sale by owner?
What are some good questions to ask when buying a used car that is for sale by the owner?

What are some good bargaining points so that I could lower the price?

All I know right now is that it is a GMC truck. .that’s red. haha.

A: get a carfax report on it. have a mechanic look at it before you buy it. Try to look for defects mechanically and cosmetically.

look on the interior. ask if the car is a salvage title, meaning that it was totaled, but ifxed up anyway. ask if all the matience was done, and if it was, by a professional, or an ameteur? take a test drive and see if it runs smoothly. ask if there was any body work done to it, even if it was a small detn from a fender bender

if the car has been in an accident, that should lower the price into about almost a half. be sure to invest the 30 dollars and get teh carfax, just to see that he isnt lying. if the matiencing wasnt done.. just leave, because its gonna have lots of problems

but other than that, buying it should be decently simple. good luck!

Q: what are the best places for finding used cars for sale?
I am looking around to see which places are the best to find used cars that sale for eight hundred to one thousand dollars. I look at the goverment auction sites but I am still not sure which place are the best to buy a car that sale for that amount

A: Auctions are a great place to find cheap prices on cars. Look on eBay as well. Check the NickelAds, your local paper for cars under $1k, and check out AutoTrader or CarSoup.
_
_
_
_
_

Q: Websites good for finding used cars for sale by owner?
I’m looking for a dependable used car on a budget and was wondering if anyone knew of any websites similar to “craigslist” that i should look at?

A: THE BEST ONE I CAN THINK OF RIGHT KNOW IS CARS.COM IF U LIVE IN AMERICA

Q: Used cars for sale in the 48060 area?
Does anyone know of or personally have a used car for sale in the 48060 area code/ Port Huron, MI or within a 50 mile radius of there? I need one that runs with little or no work needed. Thank you.

A: Please check on Autotrader.com Thousands of vehicles within a 100 mile radius

Q: Where can I find listings of used cars for sale?
I am seeking online listings for used Cadillac vehicles.
I have used eBay, Autotrader, KBB, and Cars.com. Are there other sites? Thanks!

A: http://www.carsdirect.com/used_cars/search

this site also gives many great tips on how to ensure the car your looking at is a good one to buy

Q: Used car buying, Is there a lemon law on used cars for sale by owner? How do you get a mechanic to look at it?
If you don’t own the car, how can you take the car to have a mechanic look at it? How much does it cost to do this?

A: tell the person that you will not buy the car unless it is checked out by a mechanic if he wants to sell the car he will work out the details about $75 to $100

Q: What are some websites to search for used cars for sale?
Looking for cars from the 80’s and 90’s for sale

A: I look on Ebay…autotrader.com is good too.

Q: Best place to research for used cars for sale?
I mean other than carmax and autotrader. Looking to buy a used car with less than 60,000 miles and that’s good on gas. My budget is absolutely no more than $10,000

A: Your question is unclear. Precisely what do you mean by “research”? Are you seeking particular used vehicles for sale or information about various years, makes, and models?

For the former, you can hardly do better than autotrader.com. It may not be the only resource, but it’s certainly one of the most wide-reaching and comprehensive while providing tools for you search as specifically as you’d like. Certain auto-related web sites like edmunds.com combine their own reference and editorial content with autotrader listings to provide general vehicle information too. The biggest advantage of autotrader.com is that it contains vehicles from both dealers and private parties.

Other web sites like cars.com have their own listing capabilities. Sites like caranddriver.com, motortrend.com, autos.msn.com and yahoo autos offer editorial content and estimated values. If you want basic pricing information, you can refer to the Kelly Blue Book web site (kbb.com) and nadaguides.com to help derive your own consensus.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Q: Whats a good website to look at used cars for sale?
Whats a good website to look at used cars for sale?
im looking for a 1983 el camino or a cobalt or something just a wedsite that has a variety of cars

A: You have to pay to get access to the sites that Avonlee mentioned.

The best sites I’ve found are www.autotrader.com and Google Base which is at www.google.com/base.

I hate Craig’s list because I’ve encountered two people who have tried to scam me on that web site.

You can also check out Ebay Motors!

Q: Where can i find used cars for sale?
Im looking to buy a car like the body or the shell but with no motor. Cars that just sit in peoples yard. Where can i find them?

A: Plenty of Craiglist

Q: Does anybody know a web site where i can check out used cars for sale?
i want to buy a used cheap car and pay monthly on it.

A: auto trader.com / carmax. com check out the valumax specials usually good deal.

Q: Should it be illegal for Americans to sale used cars or used clothes or used furniture = Microsoft?

A: No they should be able to sale anything they want to including their children.!!

Q: Where can I look for used cars for sale online?
It’d be great if it had pictures and info.

Thanks in advance!

Find a great deal on Used Cars For Sale In Michigan at LemonFree.com Cars

Q: I sold a used car in Michigan with an “AS IS” Bill of Sale. Can buyer force me to refund their money?
I told the buyer he couldn’t test drive the car because of no license or insurance. He said “OK” and bought the car. Sale price was under $500. I told the buyer that the car had not been driven or started for 6 months and the only thing I knew that was wrong was it needed a tuneup and that the AC didn’t work. The car is a 1992 Olds with 222,000 + miles on it. I typed out and both of us signed a Bill of Sale stating “AS IS” – no warranty expressed or implied. Buyer did not get the car home-transmission leaking through front seal. Now he wants his money back. Am I legally liable? Also, can you legally test drive a vehicle with no license or insurance in Michigan? Thanks!

A: I AM FROM MICHIGAN AND HAVE BOUGHT/SOLD MANY VEHICHLES, THIS BILL OF SALE IS BINDING ON YOUR PART. YOU WON’T HAVE ANY LEGAL PROBLEMS THOUGH HE MIGHT TAKE MATTERS IN HIS OWN HANDS.NEXT TIME RECORD THESE PROBLEMS ON THE BILL OF SALE FOR MORE EXACT UNDERSTANDING. AND NO ! YOU CANNOT LEGALLY TEST DRIVE A VEHICHLE WITHOUT PLATES/INSURANCE. ITS THE LAW!

Q: Michigan Private Used Auto Sale Laws?
Anyone know what the law would be for my situation. I’m in Michigan, and I purchased a 2002 Kia Spectra from a woman who told me everything on the vehicle was great except the transmission. So, I purchased it with the expectation that the transmission needed replacing, but everthing else was fine. I got 10 minutes from the woman’s house with the car, and it lost power, it overheated, and the radiator blew about 3 minutes after I got on the highway with it. I left it on the side of the road because it wouldn’t start back up. She tells me it isn’t her problem, it’s mine. Do I have any legal recourse against her? I drove the car just 10 minutes!

A: Yes, but since it sounds like she is not cooperating I would recommend that you speak with a lawyer – at the least you should look into filing a cause of action – which you can do on your own, but it would be easier to have a lawyers help.

She made a promise to you when she sold you the car – and clearly she was not being truthful – this is fraud and breach of contract – it is horrible that she won’t cooperate, sorry to hear about your situation.

Q: Escrow service for private party out of state used car sale?
I’m in California selling a Mustang Cobra, The buyer is in Michigan.
I have heard of escrow services that act as a neutral 3rd party, holding the title and payment until the sale is completed.

Can someone explain this process and maybe recommend an escrow service ?
Dude, I’ll be arranging it. It’s done with ebay sales on a regular basis to avoid scams.
I didn’t say it was an ebay service, I said it’s done with ebay sales, those who buy and sell on ebay commonly use a 3rd party escrow service.

A: Dude, I’ll be arranging it. It’s done with ebay sales on a regular basis to avoid scams.
———–

This is news to Ebay. They don’t have their own escrow service.

Coincidentally, people get scammed on a regular basis. Hmmm.

Q: Buying a used car out of state?
I live in Michigan and am considering buying a used car for sale in Ohio. Anyone know how much of a pain it is to do this (if it is a pain)? Does the sales tax get taken care of in Ohio or will I pay again when I register it in Michigan?
Thanks

A: It’s not a pain at all.

You’ll buy the car in Ohio (with no taxes added) and buy a temporary license plate. When you return to Michigan you will go to the DMV and get your real, permanent license plates. This is where you will bring your bill of sale and pay for the plates and (Michigan) taxes.

Q: Why are used lexus is300 or lexus is250 hard to find in michigan?
I am looking to buy a car and am considering purchasing a used 2003 and up is300 or a 2006 is250….but for some reason I can’t find any within 75 miles of ann arbor, michigan. Why is it that there are so few, if not any used ones for sale? I haven’t seen many on the roads, so where are they all?

A: Hey I know what you mean! I also live in Mi. A couple months ago I was looking for a newer used car, and I love the is300. 2JZ RWD what else could you want. couldn’t find one anywhere! At All! WTF!! The only thing I could think of was RWD and snow scare most people. especially if your not into fast cars. I ended up buying a ba8 prelude with a H22a swap. I really wanted a IS300 or a MKIII Supra. Dammit! Good Luck in your search.

Q: What are the consumer protection rules RE: private sales in Michigan?
Was wondering if anyone has purchased a used car from a private owner in Michigan and was able to get any form of their money back? My check engine light was on from the drive home, and engine blew a month later. He said he did an oil change, but light suggested otherwise. Kept putting oil in and it was not leaking out so… Anyway, $2,080 later my car is running, lost out on my college class and book money, had no transportation for a month? Also, paid $2,250 for the car to begin with… anyone have any suggestions or been through this type thing? Michigan law…

A: I sell used vehicles for a dealer in Michigan, and from that standpoint, unless it is “in writing” you have no recourse.

HOWEVER, if dealers are not offering any kind of warranty, they are required to have the customer sign a “Warranty Disclaimer” that basically says that you were offered an Extended Service Plan, and refused it. Thus the vehicle is without a warranty…or any kind of promise that it will last any longer than after you sign the papers. That way, if the car blows an engine on your way home, the dealer can cover his a– and show the judge the paper saying that YOU (the consumer) refused the warranty that was offered, and that you knew perfectly well that the car was AS-IS.

Now, the reason dealers have to do all this (and more) is because we are licensed dealers …. Individuals can sell personal property any time they want to, without any license.

Therefore, you might have more of a legal “leg to stand on” because NEITHER of you has paperwork indicating one way or the other that the vehicle may or may not be fit for use. You can argue that he assured you it was fully functional and useable. He can argue that he never said such a thing.

Its now your word against HIS. So, its up to the judge.

Q: Help with deciding if its worth it to be a real estate agent in michigan.?
I have always wanted to be a real estate agent but the economy scared me for a bit. i am really good at sales i have sold electronics and i have sold used cars but its not what i want to sell. but i want to know if its worth it. So if there is anyone out there who can point me in the right direction as far as how much i am realistically going to make and how to become one in michigan i would appreciate it.

A: A good background in sales would be helpful in being a successful real estate agent.

Earning money in the real estate career field is different for each individual. You determine this by your dedication to your potential clients, if you have a good marketing plan or sitting around the office listening to real estate war stories about what once was and the good ole times, and I remember when.

Sitting in the office listening to the other agents tell you what will not work is not the key to being a successful real estate agent.

The key to having a successful career in the real estate field are simply and easy to follow.

#1 Get the necessary education to get your state license.

A. An internet class would do just fine you are only trying to get your license.

B. If you like to sit through a class then find a real estate school in your local area.

C. Some real estate offices offer career real estate license school in their office

#2 Obtain the necessary continuing education to maintain and keep your license to sell real estate up to date.

#3 Formalize the best marketing plan you can think of to maintain a high degree of referrals and a good customer base.

You may listen to others that are successful and those that are unsuccessful tell you about what they do that work and what they do that don’t work for them.

You are not them so, what might work or not work for them might be the reverse for you. So take what they tell you and put them into something that work for you.

Starting part time might work for some and not for others. It simply depends on how many hours a day you are willing to put into your new career and how bad you want to leave your old career behind. Sometime your present career can be a crutch.

The main thing you want to remember about making real estate your career is that you are working for yourself, so you are the one that have to motivate yourself each and every day.

You want to become an expert in real estate not just a person that sell and list houses. There is a big difference.

There are several marketing techniques that are in use today.

#1 There is telemarketing, but then there is the “Do not call list” So you have to be careful there and not make a mistake or you will be sued. Cost is $11,000 per call for you as well as your employer.

#3 Advertise in the local newspaper that you are now in the business of doing real estate.

#4 You can direct mail to people in your city telling them you are in the real estate business.

I suggest you market yourself by leaving the office and spending time in a area that you want to work and get to know the people that could be your future clients.

Find an area in your city that you want to work approximately 5,000-10,000 houses. Make you enough fliers to cover your area. If you have children this will be a good weekend activity for them as well as yourself. While walking the area passing out your fliers, if you see someone out doing the lawn or just out introduce yourself, give them one of your cards. See if they are willing to give you their name and email address so you can email them, on a monthly basis, things about the real estate industry as well as your monthly newsletter. Place any information you collect in a data base that you should start.

Your flier should tell them a little about you, the high school and college you attended, a little about your family # of children, husbands first name if you have a family yet, a few of the real estate programs that you will be offering and introducing. This is an introductory flier that you can make on your computer. You can get them ran off at Staples or Office Depot.

You should pass these type fliers out at least 3 months in a row. This will let them know that you are sincere and look as if you will be there for them.

You should also visit the local commercial places in the same area. Find out if they will allow you to place a flier holder in their business, give them one of your business cards, find out their
name, write it down you never want to forget it because they will become one of your partners. buy something even if you are gonna give it away and don’t need it. Do this to as many commercial businesses in the area as will allow you to place a flier holder in their place of business. You will find the flier holders at Staples or Office Depot.

Call the post office and inquire about their bulk mailing stamp. Get one and learn the system of bulk mailing.

Also call your title company and get them to provide you with the names of the people in your area that you have been passing out your flier.

Remember your data base you were starting and now should have over a thousand names that you alone should have been able to get if you have been walking the area.

Once you have passed out the fliers for at least 3-4 months start you a newsletter covering topics on the real estate business. Get articles from your loca

Q: Need a car?
Does anyone have a used car for sale cheap in or close to Jackson, Michigan? I’ve been looking and looking but having only $500 makes it hard to find anything reliable

A: check out www.craigslist.com. People have everything in there. Just look up your area.

Q: Is there a website to see where all or many US Chrysler dealerships are having a sale?
I just read in the Wall Street Journal that Chrysler is going to start charging their dealership fees for unsold new and used cars. Many dealerships say that they will have to start selling cars at a loss in order to stay in business. I’m not in the market for a new car, but if the deal is right I might buy. However, it would be nice to have one central location that lists dealerships that are having sales or individual car listings. A national site would be great, because I don’t mind going out of state if the deal is right. I’m not too far away from Michigan, where I bet, there will be the most amount of cars being sold at rock bottom prices.

A: There’s a dealer in Holton Ks going out of business. Just announced last week. Liquidating stock now ,for the next 30 / 45 days,
Called Gary Hardy Chrysler /Jeep……….md

Q: 85 S10 V8 for sale in Michigan?
http://nmi.craigslist.org/car/341281803.html

Let me know if your interested

I got this as a payment, but I have no use for it.

A: looks like a mess….what r u asking…1000 or so??

Q: What documents needed for Auto registration and Lic Plates?
I brought a used car from out of state dealer – i.e. from California and I live in Michigan. What papers I need to get from the dealer to register papers in Michigan? The deaer told me that it takes two to three weeks to get the title and it comes directly to my home address. Is it right? Can I register and get lic plates without waiting for title paper – if I have bill of sale?

A: I assume the dealer sent your title paper work to the Michigan Secretary of State? If so you will need to wait for the title to come back from them, and the vehicle will be in your name. If he sent it to California then you will have to wait for the title to come from California and then take that document to the Michigan SOS.

You should call the Michigan SOS and see if they have any sort of temporary permit (paper plate) you can use until your documents arrive. A lot of states have those. You can call them at (888) 767-6424 , or you can e-mail your question to them at http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,1607,7-127-13162-173147–,00.html

Good Luck!

Q: which of these cars is the best deal for the money?
http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/cto/1538211552.html
2003 MECURY SABLE – $2350 (NW OHIO)

——————————————————————————–

A: I’d stay away from the Pontiacs. It is a weaker brand and is being phased out. GM said that for now they will be servicing the brand, but this period of backing the brand is indefinite. Meaning at some point in the future, GM will not be backing the brand or ordering parts to be made for the car. Then your car will be worth practically nothing.

If you decide to get the pontiac, please find a good mechanic that knows how to fix and tune the car, and know what parts it needs

Find a great deal on Used Cars For Sale In Ct at LemonFree.com Cars

Q: Whats the lemon law on used cars like in CT?
I recently purchased a vehicle for $4600 from a private owner. On the bill of sales he wrote “as is”. Before thirty days the transfer case locked up, causing the drive shaft to snap, and the rear end to fall out of the car. Turns out whoever put on the transfer case did it wrong and i’m looking at $1000 worth of damage. I asked the guy who sold it to me to pay for it and he said he has no obligation because he sold it to me “as is”. Is he right, or does he have a legal obligation to pay it?

A: there are no lemon laws for used cars, in any state, and by definition you do not have a lemon as is is exactly what it means, you do not mention the other important information like make model or year, if this car is more than 15 years old, (which I am sure it is) it would be completely unreasonable to not expect any problems, so LOOK in your wallet, there is your grand, I emphasize with your unfortunate problem, no one installs a transfer case incorrectly, but it happened. Legally you can sue the guy in small claims court, but even the judge will recognize used cars are an as is deal no matter what.
and I am not trying to judge your mechanical ability, so don’t take what I write next personal.!!. My suggestion in the future, is take the car to a good mechanic before you buy it . it is possible, that this problem may have been caught before it self destructed. I had two sisters, who knew nothing about cars, one was too BUSY to check the oil, and kept blowing up motors. I found her a car one time, I had a friend agree to do a complete mechanical inspection we WERE AT THE SHOP, MY FRIEND WAS DOING ME A FAVOR, FOR FIFTY BUCKS HE WAS GOING TO DO THE WHOLE NINE YARDS, ENGINE AND TRANNY DIAGNOSTIC, COMPLETE BUMPER TO BUMPER INSPECTION, ALL SHE HAD TO DO WAS WAIT 3 MINUTES BUT NOOOOO she thinks she saved 50 bucks, and decided to buy the car. and just drove off, not even saying anything to me.
a short time later, the front end fell apart, and when she contacted the owner, they confessed that the grandson had launched the car across some ones corner yard, but since they were selling it, thought it was ok?? it was not my mechanic friend would have caught all the destroyed motor and tranny mounts, that were hanging in pieces. so 2200 bucks later, (my tightwad sister saved 50 bucks!!) six months later, I spent several hours trying to talk the other sister out of another front wheel drive pile of crap. I almost begged her to do one thing, to this used car, take it to a transmission shop, and pay for a 50 dollar fluid and filter change.(BUT NOOO SHE WAS ANOTHER TIGHT WAD, WANTING TO SAVE 50 BUCKS!!!)
SHE buys the car, and less than a month later, a 2,700 dollar transmission self destructed, and of course when the mechanic took the pan off (which was what I wanted done.BEFORE TIGHTWAD BOUGHT THE CAR) IT WAS PACKED FULL OF METAL, AND HAD BEEN COMING APART FOR LONG BEFORE SHE BOUGHT IT. sometimes those mechanical inspections can save a ton of money, and the other reason I use them, is I will negotiate the price of the car DOWN TOO! this ones on you, but now you know what you have for a transfer case (a good one now) it happens wildman, no one put it together wrong on purpose .

Q: Do I need to pay Sale tax and Use tax for my leased Car in CT ?
I was in CT last year and moved to OH. As soon as I moved my car leasing company ( GMAC ) increased my monthey payment by $20 as Sales Tax. Now I got a letter from them that I have to pay used tax and wanted to send them $250 . I dont live in CT anymore ..

I leased my car from IL and I think they took tax when I leased it . Not sure these sales tax and use tax in CT . Your help is really appriciated

Thanks
Prince J
hi oklatom,

As I leased my car from IL , there is notin abt this use tax and sale tax.Its a CT law !!

A: Every state sales & use tax is slightly different but they all have a common theme: you have to pay sales tax, but if you don’t pay sales tax then you have to pay use tax.

You never have to pay both sales tax and use tax on the same transaction.

This I know from working many years in corporate state & local tax compliance.

Most likely, the GMAC lease will specify that they can collect from you whatever sales/use/property tax they have to pay. It’s a standard thing for these big car leasing companies.

Thing is, if GMAC paid more tax than was due, they can get a refund from CT. But nothing in your lease contract prevents them from collecting it from you.

I learned this when GE Auto Leasing billed me for property taxes on a lease a few years ago. I disputed it and we went back & forth for a while. Ended up paying because I needed my credit report cleared to refi the house.

So, GMAC might not be exactly the same as my situation, but I’d bet $10 it is.

Sorry that probably doesn’t help you decide what to do. $250 isn’t worth a lawyer unless you’re in one of those pre-paid legal plans.

Q: Private Car Sales in Connecticut?
When I sell a used car in CT as a private owner, is the car sold as is or am I liable for any problems they have within a certain time period? If so what is the time period? Anybody know what the law is, I couldn’t find anything.

A: The car is pretty much sold as is from what I hear.

Q: Looking to buy an integra for my first car?
Well i’m looking at several different integras. I am really liking the GS-R. bbut if not, i’ll be fine with the LS and probably just engine swap it. Well which of the following would you recommend? :

i know like 2/3 of the cars don’t have prices =[ but which one looks in mint condition? please help! thanks :]

A: I know what you want to hear, but I’m not going to tell you that. Which car you should buy depends completely on the quality of the vehicle, mechanically as well as physically. Integras are old, no doubt about it. They’re great cars, but they’re still old, and are bound to have problems since it’s almost 2010 and they haven’t been produced in years.

Look at all of these cars and find the one that is mechanically in the best shape. An engine swap is really a pretty silly idea. It will cost you thousands, more than any of those cars are even worth. Go to the dealers, talk to them, find one you trust, find a car that is actually a solid vehicle, then worry about modifying it.

All that said, for older vehicles, Integras are very nice cars, and have decent potential if you’re interested in speed, which it sounds like you may be.

Q: Sales Tax and Registration for purchasing a car in CT?
I am looking into buying a used car from a small automotive shop and was wondering what price I am looking at for sales tax and all of the registration fees (I am unsure if they can do all the paperwork and want to be prepared if they cannot, and make sure I am being charged correctly if they do). The vehicle is priced at $7,995
I found that the sales tax is 6% but I am unsure of what fees are included with the registration. If someone has any idea please help. I have been to the CT DMV website however it is very confusing

A: If you are getting a new tag, count on it being approx. $200-$225. Tax should be around $480. Hopefully you already have your insurance in place, cuz, they will want to see a binder. Good Luck!

Q: hybrid toyota prius tax free in CT?
My best friend has a beat up car that needs to be replaced!

I’ve have worked HERO hours to find him a car within his specifications: hatchback, low mpg (he says hybrid, but he liked a few non-hybrid cars), and gently used. He thinks his purchase will support anti-Alaskan oil devoplement.

I take his points in stride. BUT THE KID NEEDS A NEW CAR!!

I took him to many lots, and he always walks away. I know his reasons, and I understand them too. He doesn’t want to get burned in bying a used car.

He thinks hybrids are tax free our state(CT)? and found one at a “c_r_ax” dealer” [the other two letters are a and m] which i leave out for more honest opinions.

I keep warning him not to buy used, especially from “c_r m a x” !!!!, because they have a bad reputation.

I guess I’m hoping to prove him wrong, but in fairness I am looking for impartial advice either way (and i’m not really looking for c_r_max sales people’s bias on the subject, other opinion’s welcomed).

more later.
Connecticut Hybrid vehicle purchase Tax Incentives

Hybrid Sales Tax Exemption: Prior to July 1, 2008, Hybrids getting at least 40 mpg are exempt from the state’s 6% sales tax.

Free Hybrid Parking in New Haven: On June 6, 2005, the city of New Haven passed a law permitting hybrid vehicles registered in New Haven free parking at metered spots within the city. The ordinance will take effect within one month and only apply to alternative fuel vehicles registered in New Haven. Owners will have to come to City Hall to receive a decal which will be attached the to vehicle. Motorists will still need to obey posted time limits and must park in legal spots.

A: Okay I see a lot of incomplete or flat-out wrong information in previous posts so let me try to sort it out. Here’s the deal on a hybrid purchase in Connecticut: Any new or used hybrid purchased before October 1, 2008, that gets at least 40 mpg is exempt from state sales tax. The Federal Tax Credit applies to the purchase of any NEW hybrid vehicle and is calculated based on the mpg that model gets compared to it’s non-hybrid counterpart. A chart detailing the credit for different hybrids can be found on the IRS website. Keep in mind that the tax credit also gets cut in half after that car manufacturer has sold 60,000 hybrid vehicles. Toyota, who has led all manufacturers in hybrid production and sales, has already hit that mark and as a result the credit for any purchase of a Toyota hybrid is now half the original amount. It will be cut in half again April 1, 2007 and phased out completely October 1, 2007. So, taking the Prius as an example, it started with a $3150 credit, got reduced to $1575 on 10-1-06, will be $787.50 on 4-1-07, and will be $0.00 on 10-1-07. No other manufacturer has hit the 60,000 mark at this point. So, getting back to your original question, if your friend bought a used Prius, he would be exempt from sales tax but would not receive a tax credit (because it’s used). If he wants a hybrid he might be better off buying new as the resale value for hybrids is higher than most other vehicles and he would then be eligible for the IRS tax credit. Your friend’s environmental consciousness is commendable and, while hybrids are not perfect in terms of efficiency, they are the best current option in cutting down on fuel consumption.

A: Try getting a descent car. I know that Nissan’s and Toyota’s are hard to get for that price. You should get a Honda Civic instead. They save gas and the parts are cheap. Honda Civic is a car that you can rely on.

Q: Buying a Car out of state?
I live in Connecticut and am looking to purchase a used certified vehicle from a dealer in New Hampshire.
I’m wondering if anyone else has done this before (with these particular states) and what the process is? I have a registration from the state of CT for my old car that I want to transfer to this newer car.
Do I have to buy the vehicle in NH, then go back to CT with my bill of sale to get temporary tags, and then go back to NH to pick up the car or will NH give me temporary tags to drive it home to CT?

Thanks in advance…

A: Just tell the dealer you want to register the car in CT. Dealer will give you a temporary plate so you can drive it home and take care of the registration.

Don’t forget about insurance before you drive it away.

If you talk to your agent in advance, and call him from the dealer to give him the VIN, he can probably fax over your new card while you are signing papers.

Q: i’m thinking about getting snow tires and aftermarket rims for a ‘07 bmw 328 xi, good idea?
we will be using our bmw year round in CT, rather than mounting and dismounting the tires, (they are runflats), for each season i am thinking of buying some rims and mounting the snow tires on them. my concerns are; should i run a smaller width snow tire?, should i stay with the 16″ rims or could i run a set of older bmw rims (i know of a set from a ‘95 318is for sale)?, or would those rims even fit?, would running smaller rims mess up any computers or handling of the car? i don’t know if the older rims would be compatable with runflat tires or not. how do you handle this with your bmw? thanks in advance, car dude.

A: i would go with standard size rims and tires you will have to get rims for a car with pressure monitoring if you dont want to constantly see a warning when you have winter tires on. (there is a sensor in the rim that monitors pressure. snow tires make a bid difference and i recommend them although with AWD you can get away with all seasons. i have an Audi Quattro and i have gone through winter both with snows and all seasons and you can do it with the all seasons but the snows are recommended for breaking especially.

Q: Question for mechanics or knowledgeable Jeep owners about a 2004 Jeep Wrangler w/ lift kit?
I am looking at a used 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport as an extra “fun” vehicle. I have nowhere near the knowledge of a mechanic. It has a lift kit and the sales person/mechanic at the dealership told me that one of the rear suspension things is locked up. They don’t intend on fixing it..it’s ‘as is’. Question is: can it be fixed? Is it ridiculously expensive to fix? Should I even care if it is fixed? If it isn’t fixed, will it cause further problems? They only want 12,000-ish for it, so I was thinking something must be wrong with it.

Anyone have any constructive input without being able to see it in person?

You can see it here: http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dda/detail.jsp?ct=u&car_id=260568060&dealer_id=100012010&car_year=2004&dealership_view_name=null&model=&make2=&start_year=2002&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&result_car_id=234041423&fuel=&search_type=both&suppressStyle=null&make=JEEP&keywords_display=&color=&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=&max_mileage=&sort_type=priceDESC&advanced=&end_year=2008&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=0

A: Take it for a test drive… to your mechanic. Have him give it a good look and a price on any repairs needed. When you get back to the dealer with your mechanics list of needed repairs you can negotiate the price. If they don’t want to either fix the problems or deal on the price leave. Don’t leave a contact number don’t look at something else on his lot. Just leave.

Q: Wife took off with 8 mth old 1000 miles from our home and tried to file divorce,so I filed here first?
Wife took off with 8 mth old 1000 miles from our home and tried to file divorce,so I filed here first?
had tempt hearing where we agreed for her to have tempt full custody of the child and for me to have temp full use of the home.My atty at the time said I had a strong case of winning full custody as I was the primary caregiver the fist 8 mths of the childs life and I work from home.
Now 4 mths later he tells me without a report form a guardian ad litem stating he feels the best interst of the child is with me that he and I are simply pssing in the wind.
I feel like I was conned by him.My wife wrote online that she was hallucinating, seeing her dead dogs ghost, having mood swings and depression, the neighbor lady signed a notarized affadavit that my wife told her she has mood swings and anger toward me from her medications.I filed a police report against my wife the month she took off with our son because she wrote in emails to her friends that she intended for me to never see the baby again, and then at the temp court hearing she agreed for me to get my son for a 20 day visitation period. My atty spoke to me about possbily having another hearing for a temp custody and visitation schedule as my wife only lets me talk to my son once or twice a week since me getting him for 20 days but had allowed no contact at all for the previous 4 mths.
She wants to sell our home and I want to pay her out of my future inheritance and me keep the home. She hangs up the phone not allowing me to talk to my son if I bring up visitation or housing concerns about him.
Will the courts most likely say that has had him in CT for the past 6 mths and so they find no reason to disrupt him form his current living situation and force the sale of or home? She lives with her parents in CT,has no job,is borrowing money from them to pay for atty’s,$175.00 a mth for a storage shed,$370.00 mth for car,$75.00 mth for car insurance, this does not include food, diapers, clothes, etc.I am paying her $500.00 a mth child support and sending clothes and toys for him,but she can’t afford to raise him.I work from home and have and can raise him alone.I have offered her to live in this home and I leave but she wants me to never see him again simply out of jealosy that he did not latch and she went running off with her friends leaving him with me to care for, then now she wants to claim I kept him from her.
Mt atty seems to not care, the gaurdian ad litem seems to not care,I am sure the judge will not care.
What is most likely to happen
i have offered her that if she just lets me keep the home I will pay her the equity in a few yrs when my father dies and I will stop fighting for full custody and will settle for I get him during 3 mths in the summer and split holidays. She says we’ll leave this to the courts.I told her I could very well get him all yr and she see him a couple weeks out of the year, and now she wont even let me talk to him

A: Sounds like you need a new lawyer. Keep documenting EVERYTHING. Most states now have laws where the child cannot live so many miles away from a parent unless it is approved by the courts. I’m not sure if that is the case in your state, and your attorney should know the difference.

A: A case like this looks in your favor, but the judge may have their own bias. Hope for a male judge. Also hope you have the better lawyer. I’m guessing you get custody and the house, but it’s a guess. It could swing either way. (By the way, stories like this one make me glad my wife left me before we had any kids.)

Find a great deal fromUsed Car Dealerships In Maryland at LemonFree.com Cars

Q: do used car dealerships give you time to get your car insured and still take the car home?
I live in maryland and I am planning on getting a car but I don’t want to have to make 2 trips to the dealership to buy the car then to pick it up because I probably would have to pay someone to take me because its far enough where someone will most likely want gas money….. I wanted to know if I could take the car home the same day without insurance and have like 48 hours to get it insured…..I live in maryland

A: Call the insurance company ahead of time. Get a “Binder” for the car. After you buy the car call the insurance back and give them the VIN, etc.

Q: does the lemon law in maryland apply to used cars purchase or its only new cars?
i bought a used car in maryland with warranty, and drove it for less than 1000 miles,it started giving me problems and i took it back to the dealership for repair, they gave their rental car instead and its driving smoothly,my car has been in the shop for a month ++ and they have still not repaired it,do i have the right to claim the rental car they have given me for exchange?

A: A used car is not covered under the lemon law in Maryland, and you can not keep the loaner car in exchange for the car that you purchased. You do not say what the problem was with your car, but they dealer has provided you with transportation, and they are not required to do that.

Call the dealer to find out what the delay is in getting your car repaired.

Q: how do i claim another car from a car dealership if they make numerous unsuccessful to repair my car?
i live in maryland,a reputable car dealership sold me a used car with warranty but the car started having problems few weeks after i purchased it,so i took it back to the dealership and its been 3 months, they have made several unsuccessful attempts to repair it,instead they have provided me with a rental.what steps should i take to get it replaced with another car?

A: Does the guarantee say that he will give you another car or does it say that he will repair the one you have?

You need to review the paperwork for the purchase of the car and speak to the dealer and see what they are willing to do.

Q: what is the difference betwwen the Buick Park Avenue 2000-2005… like what is the diffenence in each year?
about to purchase one but not sure which year. it would also be a big help if someone knew any websites or used car dealerships around maryland, that haves park avenus.

A: Buick is known for producing the same cars for years at a time. For example, other than some cosmetic and add-on effects, my 2000 Buick Regal is 98% similar to an 02, or 03…..And at the same time very similar to the Century from 97-05.

My assumption, based on Buick’s track record, is that the Park Avenue didn’t change much over the 5 year run. Like I said, other than some cosmetic changes, the motor, powertrain, and everything that makes it run will remain the same.

For your situation, I would just browse through different ones until you find one that you feel is best fit and reliable for you.

Q: I’m in the military and live in Maryland. I want to buy a used car in VA. My home record is FL.?
What fees would I have to pay at a dealership when I buy a car? I don’t want to register it in VA I only want temp tags. Will military be exempt from any fees or taxes in VA?

A: If you purchase the vehicle in VA, you will only have to pay for the temporary tags. There may be a slight fee for out of state purchasers, it was 1/2 of 1 percent of the purchase price, but that may have changed.

If your home of record is Florida, you can either register the car in Florida or in Maryland. It would be a much more economical move to register it in Florida. Im Maryland you will pay 6% tax on the purchase price, and will have to have the car Maryland Safety inspected, which will cost you at least $50 plus whatever work is required.

Registering in your home state is legal for a member of the military, and there is usually an office on base that will assist you in doing so.

Thank you for your service!

Q: How can I safely buy a used car from a private seller who is still making payments & does not have the title?
Is there a way to handle the sale so I will be protected, and if so, what is it? I have always bought new cars from large, authorized dealerships so this is the first time I’ve planned to buy a car from a private seller. I prefer not to consult a lawyer for a matter like this, but I also want to make sure my interests are protected. If it makes any difference I live in Maryland & the seller lives 100 miles away in Delaware. The seller is the original owner and her auto loan is with Chrysler Financial since it was purchased at a Chrysler Dealership. (Note: I posted a similar question two days ago but now need to rephrase my question. I welcome any answers, even if you answered my similar question on August 6.)

A: It can be done, but it’s a little complicated, and it’s going to depend on the laws in the states you’re dealing with (Maryland and Delaware). So yes, that makes a BIG difference.

It’s not a simple transaction; you’re actually talking about doing two transactions: buying ther car in Delaware, and importing it into Maryland.

First, find out what it takes to import a car into Maryland. You’ll probably need a clear Delaware title, and proof of insurance. You may need other documentation. Don’t confuse the issue for the Maryland folks, tell them you will have a clear Delaware title. Then get it.

You need to make sure the loan is paid off before you can get a clear title; it might be necessary to close the deal at the finance company, so they can be sure to get their money. Another option, which might actually be a requirement, is to have the sale done through a local (Delaware) car dealer. They will charge a fee, of course, which could be anywhere from $25 to $1,000,or more.

In some states you will need a lawyer, in some states it has to be done through a Notary Public.

On the other hand, it might actually be very simple and painless. You need to pick up the phone and ask lots of questions, and I would start with the finance company.

Q: What will be the real purchasing costs of getting a $4000.00 used car?
I’m looking to get a used car or suv as my first vehicle – something in the $3000.00-$6000.00 range.
I’ve been looking at eBay Motors, Craigslist, Cars.com, Vehix.com online. Also, I’ve been looking in my newspaper’s classifieds and the weekly Auto Shopper booklet in my area.
It does not matter to me whether I deal with an actual car dealership or with a private owner.
Let’s say, for this question, that I’ve come across something I like that says the cost is $4000.00.
Maybe I’m too skeptical, I dunno … but would I REALLY be able to buy the used vehicle for $4000.00 or would there be additional costs that I need to factor in? (Helpful to know so I know whether or not I need to save up even more money to cover whatever undisclosed costs.)
If it matters any, I’m based out of the state of Delaware. I’ve been looking at cars/suvs in Delaware, nearby Maryland, nearby Pennsylvania, and nearby New Jersey.

Any and all expertise and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A: You will have sales tax at the rate for your area. (2.5-10%)
Title fee, insurance, tag and dealers often charge a doc fee which is just extra profit.

Q: We bought a used car for 700.00 need to know if we can get another car or money back?
My husband and I purchased a used mazda for 700.00 from a pic and pay dealership in waldorf md. We had to pay 500.00 monthly fees becuase the overall price for the car was I believe 2000.00. We only had the car for almost a week before it started to break down and the farthest place we drove it to was an airplane museum out in virginia somewhere. We were driving down the road and from behind us was a lot of white smoke. So we pulled over and called the guy to come fix the car and he had to tow it back to the dealer we got it from. The guy asked us for 500.00 to fix the car. (Keep in mind this is the same guy who sold it to us) Now I have never heard of a dealer telling us that we need to pay for a car we didnt even damage. We drove the car to dc from maryland and it just all of a sudden blows smoke out of it. What can we do to get this money back from the dealer or at least get a better car? We only had it for almost a week before it started acting stupid. Is it too late to file claims against them it happened last year.
The car when we first purchased it didnt even have an antennae for the radio and the trunk wouldnt open and it had a broken key in the key hole of the trunk. We paid I believe 170.00 for insurance on the car.
Sorry messed up the title. We put up 700.00 for down payment on the car.
The car had a warranty of 90 days on it.

A: I am not sure if you paid $700 or $2000 . If it was $700, you probably got your money’s worth. If it was $2000 and then $500 to fix it , then I would hope for it to last a little longer.

If this happened last year , why would you wait until now to make a fuss? You should have complained at the time. If the sale was made “where is, as is. no warranty”, you would have no legal room to complain as soon as you signed the deal. After a year, I do not think you even have moral grounds

Q: I have this car! Its a nightmare!?
Hi i purchased a car from the Satens of car dealerships CARMAX! I have had it less than a year and its been to the shopat least 10 times….Some repairs are for the same thing over an over again…Now i kno in maryland we do have a lemon law, but i purchased this car used….so i dont count right?….i have the exstended warrenty with carmax but even that gets exspensive paying the deductble….is there any thing i can do legal wise? i dont feel like its fare that i pay all of this money for a car thats fallin apart…i mean come on i already have had a rebuilt tranny at 35,000 miles? any help would be appriciated?
oh its a 02 lincoln LS peice of crap if that matters

A: Unfortunately you’re going to be stuck with all the repair bills. Lemon laws only apply to new cars, so you’re out of luck there. You bought the car as-is. so what do you think Carmax is going to do for you. It doesn’t hurt to ask them for help, but I wouldn’t expect any. Next time get the car checked out by a local mechanic before you buy.

Q: Title transferred and notarized out of state?
I am buying a new car (used 04) from a used car dealership in North Carolina and I am trading in my old one. The car is currently registered in Pennsylvania. However here is the problem. the car I am trading in is a car that is titled and registered to my aunt who lives in Maryland currently (pa drivers license though)

I am located in PA and she is in MD, the dealer is in NC. Basically i want to trade this car in to the dealer WITHOUT my aunt having to drive all the way down to NC because she isn’t going to.

Is it possible to get a notary in MD to notarize this title transfer if my aunt who owns the car signs the transfer and lists the buyers name and then the dealer signs it when I get down there?

OR I will have to have the car titled in my name with a temporary registration in MD with my aunt basically selling it to me. It isn’t “exempt” from the gifting tax because she is not over 65 however it says the minimum tax is 38.50. I guess we could say I am buying it off her for $640, the minimum amount and pay the 38 bucks in tax and 50 in other fees first. The dealer said I could sign a contract indicating I will get him the title.

However I would much rather go with option two. Do you think I could get a notary in MD to sign it as long as my aunt is there to sign over the sale? I don’t see how I couldn’t find one to do that, especially if they are a small notary service.

I need to know the best way to do this since I am picking up my new car on Thursday. Thank you!
Also, does the car have to be legally registered in PA at the time? Registration was up February but I didn’t want to spend $36 to get it registered (since i drive the car) when I knew I would be getting rid of it. I heard that it doesn’t have to be correct?

A: Not so good advice from Kelly or Bajakma..How does the dealership you are trading the vehicle in know you didn’t steal the car from your aunt?? How do they know you have her permission to trade the car? They don’t!! And if her name is not going to appear on any paperwork for your new car, any reputable dealership will NOT accept your aunt’s car as a trade! I suggest you get a notarized letter from your aunt with all the information about the vehicle…make, model, vin, color, doors etc. authorizing you or allowing you to use the car as a trade in for another car. It probably would help if she put the name of the dealership you will be trading it in at. Example: I, XXXXX, owner of a Year, make, model, VIN#XXXXXXX, am authorizing ( or allowing) my nephew,XXXXX to use the above referenced vehicle as a trade in to XXX(name of dealership.) Her notarized signature.

The vehicle does not need to be registered to sell it, but I am not sure how you are going to get it to NC without plates. But that is your decision.

Q: Maryland Dealer Tag usage all over State/out of state?
Hello,
My father is a used car dealer in the state of Maryland. Recently he has given me my own car using a ‘Dealer’ tag. This weekend I asked him if i could drive up to Ocean City, MD with a bunch of my friends next month. He said that i was unable to use the tag 50 miles from the dealership. Is what he telling me true or just an excuse to not have me drive down. I have been using the ‘dealer’ tag for almost 2 years now (through my permit and whatnot, i am now 18. Which by the way, said I was unable to have my own car within his insurance which until i was 18, but thats another story). Any help would be great! Also any links supporting what he is saying is true would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time!

A: I’m sure he is telling you the truth. A dealer tag is only supposed to be used by a dealer to take people on a test drive. Sounds like someone is trying to pull something over on the state of MD.

Q: Any ideas what could be wrong/What should I do next?
I live in Maryland.
I bought a used car from a dealership on 10/10/08. 2006 Ford Explorer with 51,000 miles.
4.0 v6

I’m stuck right now with what to do with the dealership, and just wanted some advice on it.

So on 11/25/08, I was called in for some “tag work”…they wouldnt specify. I asked them to go ahead and do the complimentary oil change while i was there, and they told me 45 minutes. It turned out to be 5 hours. I dug and dug for the whole five hours, being told they didnt have an oil filter, or an air filter….and finally I found out they sold me the car, with hard tags, with an expired inspection ticket, and waited almost 2 months to inspect it. This means I have been driving around in a car that was not registered with the MVA (illegal).

So since then item after item have been going wrong.

- Rear windshield defroster broke
- Rear windshield wiper motor went out.
- new air filter/fuel filter
- new rear axle seal
- new wipers

The dealer has fixed this issues, free of cost, but they have done a half-ass job on them. Putting the windshield wiper on wrong, not tightening down the rear window so it fell down. Plus making me wait hours for simple repairs.

So there are some other issues….
- busted vacuum line under dash
- serious vibration above 50mph
- bad rust under front seats/steering column

Everyone should know that a vehicle with this mileage and being only 2 years old should not have all these problems.
The vehicle was sold with only a 30-day warranty…but the dealer is fixing items…very slowly and doing a bad job, but there eventually getting to them.

So I decided to type up a 3-page letter that I wanted to sit down with the owner and discuss what we could do to resolve this.

I walked in and asked him:
“Can we discuss this”
he said:
“Are you here to get your car fixed or not?”
I said:
“Well, can we discuss…”
He interuppted:
“ARE YOU HERE TO GET YOUR CAR FIXED OR NOT?”
Then walked away.

The three issues listed above (vacuum, vibration, and rust) have not been fixed.

So my final question is:
What am I entitled to?
What should I do next?
Any idea what may be causing the problems?

Thanks!
I’ve checked carfax and teh insurance agency’s system..and none have reported any flood damage. or wrecks for that matter

A: The whole thing sounds kind of suspicious to me but I’d keep on-top of the dealership and make sure they fix all the problems correctly , plus keep a list of the different problems and when they first occurred.Once you’ve tried your best with the dealership in seeing to the repairs all being done properly and you’ve it all recorded then as long as you’re polite but persistent and explain the whole problem to Fords local office in person more then likely if you are a loyal ford customer they won’t want to loose your business and they’ll see to perhaps you getting a whole different vehicle or so much cash back etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way remember the lemon laws and if the vehicle showed several repair issues well within the 30 days that alone should entitle you to a replacement vehicle free of charge, plus I’d be demanding it also come with at least the 30 day warranty.

Q: Looking for the “position title” for this specific job (please help me)?
I’m looking for what a certain name, for a job that I’m going to describe, is called. I’m also looking for any information on how to obtain a job like this.
The job details are: You arrive to dealerships and photograph, used or new cars (not sure which, i’m leaning towards used), then upload the photos to a website. I’m assuming you’d also enter all the vehicle spec’s.
The reason I ask is, I want to change my career to something I’m passionate about it, and this is it.
I passed a car yesterday and saw that the person was in a company vehicle, that had a detail of what that company did… that specific company went out to the used cars, photographed them, uploaded the photos to online websites, and also placed the used car sticker in the window of the vehicle.
What is the actually name, of a job like this?
Any information on how you can obtain a job like this, would also be aprpeciated.
I’m located in Maryland, as an added bonus, if any one has an leads here in maryland.

Help!!! Thanks!

A: Wow you sure your “Passionate” about this and not just interested? Anyway besides semantics i would assume that you do not mean you do this at a used car lot but at an individuals house or for people trying to sell their cars at home and not to a dealer to sell for them? If this is the case I’ll give some suggestions: (but u can really just make up your own title)

Q: I purchased a used motorcycle?
I purchased a motorcycle and can not get it registered or titled because the car dealership has a nonrepairable certification from DMV stating that the dealership can not get the title in their name. The dealership stated that I still owe them money on the bike and I do not want to pay because I’m stuck with this bike and not can’t ride it. I love this bike and was told that I could purchase a new frame and get a clean title, however can the dealership repo the bike from me since i owe them money. They are not the lein holders and was not suppose to sell it to me but I don’t want to get in trouble. What should I do. Oh and I have a bill of sell saying i owe them zero dollars and I have to Maryland Salvage Title to.
The motorcycle was not sold for parts. He sold it to me for $2,300.00 I only paid $1,100.00 and now he keeps calling because I owe him more money and saying he is going to report it stolen. DMV denied him ownership because when they have on record that the motorcycle had way to many damages. Therefore it is unrepairable and can only be sold as parts. The car spot in in richmond, va and he wont give me any money back so legally what the hell should i do. I was told that you could go on line and purchase frams and get someone to put it on

A: Ah…. The bike was sold to you for $2,300, you paid $1,100. You still owe $1,200. Looks like grand theft auto to me.

Find a great deal on Used Cars For Sale In Georgia at LemonFree.com Cars

Q: Sales Tax on used cars in Georgia??
Do you have to pay sales tax on a used car you buy from a person in Georgia? Someone told me there is no tax because it is paid at the dealer by original buyer, is this true? I know it wasn’t like that in FL. Thanks for your help. Will call DMV tomorrow, but just wanted to ask here first.

A: Georgia tried imposing sales tax on private used car sales a few years ago and it failed miserably. No, you don’t pay sales tax on used cars purchased from individuals.

Q: Paying sales tax on used car in Georgia?
Quick question. I have been reading that you don’t have to pay sales tax on a used vehicle purchased from a private seller and was curious to know if that still applies if I cross the state line and purchase the car in florida and bring it back home to Georgia to register? Thanks for the help.

A: It still applies, as long as the purchase was from an individual, not a dealer.

Q: why don’t you pay sales taxes for a used car in georgia if you buy directly from a person?
I know you have to pay them in other states regardless

A: Why is that? The sales tax was paid when the car was purchased from the dealer.

Q: What to do when you have a car without a title?
Okay i live in georgia and i bought a used car from a person and the car is fine and everything but now its time for me to get new tags but they said the having a hard time obtain the title of the car which is stop in me from get in new tags. what should i do. i have the bill of sale and the motor vehicle receipt.

A: I bought a used car in Oklahoma last week and saved a lot. Try visiting a few used car lots in Georgia. http://www.findusedcardealer.com/Georgia-Used-Car-Dealers.html

Q: Should we move to Georgia from California?
We are recently retired, own a small home in So. California on a main street in a fast growing town. We’re unhappy with the fast growth, so many people, and too many cars. Because of our medical insurance and finances, if we sell our home and relocate, our only option to be closer to our kids is Georgia. We want to use the profit from the sale of our home in Calif. to pay cash for another home so we won’t have a mortgage payment. We will be going there soon to check it out. Does anyone have any advice for a native Californian about Northern Georgia? Weather, bugs, etc.? We’re looking at Cartersville and Acworth (just north of Atlanta).

A: I was born and raised in Atlanta, so I’ll tell you what I can.

By living in Ackworth or Cartersville, you should be able to avoid a lot of the growth that seems to be happening lately. I lived in Roswell and Marietta for a time, and I don’t even recognize it anymore!! It’s been a while since I’ve been up north, but that has always been a quiet part of the state.

We do have our share of cold winters, but that’s nothing compared to the muggy summers. I was stationed in California for 2 1/2 years (Vandenberg Air Force Base near Santa Barbara) and the dry heat just didn’t compare with the humidity in Georgia. Be prepared to find a pool or soak yourself with hose when May or June comes around!!!

Georgia also has it’s fair share of mosquitos (especially far from the city areas) in the summer, so it might be a good idea to keep a can of “Off” on hand.

As far as recreation goes, Georgia has plenty to offer. If you like amusement parks, look no further than “Six Flags Over Georgia”. While it’s not as pristine as Disney or other parks with the “Six Flags” moniker, there are plenty of coasters to challenge all. Stone Moutain is a great outdoor spot to spend a long weekend. Be sure to head there in the summer to check out the nightly laser show. If you are a sports fan, downtown Atlanta is the place to be. Even if you are not a fan of the Georgia teams, you can go to Turner field for baseball (one of the best ballparks in major league baseball), the Georgia Dome for football, and Phillips Arena for hockey.

There are just too many things to list, so I suggest finding a guide to downtown Atlanta to find what you like.

The people are also very friendly. I have brought many friends from all around the country to visit my home state, and each person has commented on how friendly and helpful everyone is. I’m not saying there aren’t any unsavory types in Georgia, but you will be hard-pressed to find one.

I hope this helps you, and I hope your move goes smoothly. Good luck with your endeavor, and welcome to “Hotlanta”.

By the way…make sure you head to downtown Atlanta, and grab a bite to eat at “The Varsity”. It’s right off of I-75, across from Georgia Tech. It’s considered by many Atlanta-natives to be the Mecca of fast food.

Q: What car has good gas mileage?
I’m 18 years old, and I’m looking for my first car. It will mainly be used to get home from college which is only about 30 miles away. I need a car that has the best gas mileage for the cheapest price. My budget is $2000, and of course the car will be used. I prefer a manual.

I’m not looking for specific cars (such as on craiglist), I just need the Models that are the best option. Although some specific cars for sale is cool too (I live in Georgia).

A: 1997 Honda Civic

Q: I sold my car last weekend, now the guy wants his money back…?
I have read all the other questions like this and I get the same answer just about every time. But I am just being extra cautious.

I sold a 1995 Saturn SC1 last week to this guy. We negotiated a price of $775 because it needed a new radiator and a tune-up. I made sure he knew that my husband drove this car to his job everyday without problems. That the radiator needed to be changed before driving it a long way. He said ok and we made the transaction. I wrote on the biil of sale “Car is sold AS-IS” He signed the title and went and registered it. Now (a week later) he comes knocking on my door saying “We got problems.” He said he took it to a local dealership that checked it out and the mechanic says the rings are bad. He says he wants his money back or me to pay for the repairs. I told him I would check it out and get back to him. I researched it online and found that the lemon laws here in Georgia only apply to dealers and new cars. I, also found that private party sales are not mentioned in the law. I printed out the page from the GOVERNMENT website stating the law and took it to him. He says that there is another law regarding used cars. I have checked it out and found nothing. He informs me that he has an attorney on retainer and he will be contacting him tomorrow about this. I know I told him the car needs repairs and that my husband drove it with no problems. He drove it everyday! The guy test-drove the car and checked the oil and looked the car over really good and still took it home. Does he have the right to demand his money back or take me to court? Or does what I wrote on the bill of sale stand AS-IS?

A: Don’t stress about this one second. Its a $775 car.

You wouldn’t be responsible even if you had not written as-is on the bill of sale.

Don’t worry about it. Chances are any lawyer is going to tell him he doesn’t have a case except to try and scare you into giving his money back.

Don’t fall for it. Tell him to stop calling you and if he continues, swear out a warrant for his arrest,

If he has an attorney on retainer, he wouldn’t be buying a $775 car.

There are no lemon laws for private party sales anywhere in the US. AS-IS means as-is.

If you didn’t write as-is, it would still be implied.

Save your bill of sale and don’t worry about it.

If by some fluke he does sue you, dont worry. But be sure to show up in court, show the bill of sale and explain your side. I give you a 99%+ chance of winning.

If you fail to show up in court, he could win a defaultjudgmentt, which means you owe him for the $775 plus court cost.

But, I doubt he sues, Im not sure if it costs $35-75 to sue butthat’ss just good money after bad for him. He’d be an idiot to do it because he has no chance of winning unless youdon’tt show up.

Q: What do you think of Driver’s license laws hit auto dealers Unable to register, illegal immigrants return ?
http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/stories/2007/07/15/tags_0716.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab
Jose Genao sells used cars for a living, but lately he’s had to turn away customers from his Smyrna dealership.

Genao used to sell about 15 vehicles a week, mostly Ford F-150 or Silverado pickups to a Mexican clientele. Now he sells only two or three.

Half a dozen customers have returned cars because they can’t register them.

“They bring the key and tell me, ‘Jose, I’m leaving,’ ” Genao said.

Genao is feeling the fallout from a new state law, effective July 1, that requires a valid Georgia driver’s license or ID card to register a car in Georgia.

The law is cutting deep into traffic for many auto dealers and tag and title services catering to the state’s growing immigrant community. Illegal immigrants can’t get driver’s licenses because to do so, they must prove they’re in the country legally.

The law also has the potential to cut into sales taxes and county ad valorem tax revenues, though metro area counties say it’s too early to measure that effect.

The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) said he did not target immigrants.

“Yes, this will impact people who are here illegally, but my biggest focus is public safety,” he said.

“If [car dealers and tag services] have built their business on people who are here illegally, I’m sorry

A: I think that is a very valid and necessary law. The guy who said that they are dangerous isn’t just talking to hear himself yammer. It’s the truth. In my hometown, quite a few years back, a crowded van full of illegals went the wrong way down an interstate (more than likely because they could not read english). If i remember correctly, they killed themselves plus an oncoming vehicle.

Q: What to do if you suspect a bank check is fake?
Had car for sale.

Someone wrote me they wanted it.

Situation didn’t make sense. A doctor in Georgia wanting to buy a 20 year old used car from Toronto, get it shipped, etc.?

Looked into it, decided it was a scam. Found info. on the web about similar scams where people send fake checks, the seller cashes them at the bank no problem, then awhile later when the check gets to some official place, it’s found to be counterfeit, then the seller owes the bank the money.

Anyway, I’ve already got rid of the car, then a month later this bozo tells me a check’s on the way. I told him the car’s gone. He said to inform him when the check arrives. I’m thinking of sending it somewhere, like the bank it’s issued from.

Ideas?

A: Great idea ! ! Just be certain that when you open the envelope you’re wearing plastic gloves so that the only fingerprints on the check and inside the envelope are the sender’s. Then send the envelope and its contents to the bank along with a note that states you think it’s fake and any fingerprints on the check or inside the envelope are not yours. Perhaps they’ll be able to use the information to track down the scammer. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Q: Please help? no car title?
What to do when you have a car without a title?
Okay i live in georgia and i bought a used car from a person and the car is fine and everything but now its time for me to get new tags but they said the having a hard time obtain the title of the car which is stop in me from get in new tags. what should i do. i have the bill of sale and the motor vehicle receipt.

A: Like the first responder said , take your bill of sale and any other paperwork you obtained from seller to the DMV or whatever you call the office there and they will guide you thru the steps as to filing for a lost titile. Set aside a little extra money for this. I know hear you must put up a bond and the titling fees which all in all winds up running about 500 bucks and a couple of months of time. Next time i would not bother with the hassle of buying a car unless they have a title or it is just one unbelievable bargain that is still a bargain when all the headache is said and done.

Q: Bought a car and seller won’t give me the title?
I bought a car 3 weeks ago, the buyer was supposed to use the money to pay off the loan and then send me the title. She gave me a bill of sale so I could drive the car for the 30 days until I had to have it registered. I called her last week and she said give her another week. I have to have the car registered in another week or I will have to pay penalties. What can I do if she doesn’t pay the loan or does not give me the title? Can she get in trouble for selling me a car without paying the loan off? What are my options? I live in Georgia if that makes a difference.

Please, no rude remarks about why I bought a car without the title (I have learned my lesson), I’m just asking for advise.

A: What you need to do is go back to her and demand your money back. Other wise you will take her to small claims. That should put the fire under her butt to get the title from the bank. if she still hasn’t paid the loan off then it’s time for her to give you your money, if she doesn’t have it, take her to small claims. thats pretty much it.

Q: Need help on information about getting car at dealership.?
I’m new at the whole car buying thing, and I have a question.
Would a dealership take something like $50 or more for money down on a used truck? It’s about $3,000 and I’m thinking of paying may be $73/mo. for 60 months.
I have a DJ job this week and I’ll get may be $50 and I start working again next month, right now I’m talking to my boss if I can start next week instead of next month.

Also, how much would sales tax cost for a car in Georgia?
Plus what are some other fees for buying a car? I know there’s registration, tax, and title, but is there others?
Sorry for all the questions, but one more thing… Could the fees be included in the monthly payment, or are they needed to be paid right away?
NOTE to others: Please don’t post links about getting a job… My question isn’t about getting a job, it’s about buying a truck.

Thank you.

A: If its only $3k, you will probably not get 60 month financing. Its an older truck if it is selling for that price.

Also, since its a $3k truck, its likely at a mom-n-pop used car lot, or a buy here / pay here lot. That means they will either want the whole price up front, or finance it themselves. Look for terms more like 12 months at the outside, and likely wanting more $$ down. $50 to drive off is pretty low.

If you do go so far as to start seriously trying to buy this truck, PLEASE spend the $ to get a mechanic to look it over. You dont have a lot of money, and you are not making much. So you cant afford to pin yourself to a car payment on a truck that is a POS. The $ for an inspection may help you avoid a potential disaster.

Q: How can I transfer loan/title to my wife?
I have a car loan at 5.8%, I need to get rid of the obligation to meet a required income:debt ratio with my new mortgage (also in my name only).

How can I transfer the loan obligation to my wife? Do I need to sell the car to my wife, payoff my loan, and have her get a used car loan (which is a better rate anyway).

IMPORTANT: If I do this am I obligating either of us for sales tax? Also I already paid ad velorum tax on this in April (my birthday), I believe that is prorated/refunded and she would pay it in July (her birthday). Correct?

This is for the state of Georgia. Thanks!
Thanks for all the details so far.

To clarify, today, my wife has about the same income, job security, credit, as myself so I am not worried about those differences.

The reason I need to do this is to refinance an existing loan. To answer a question below, I was already married at the time of the original loan, and had no problem getting the loan in my name alone (she did not have a sufficient length of credit history). The issue now is that stupid ratio is being compared to my own income, not my household income (which is basically double).

A: If she is not co-signed now and you want her to take over the loan, the lender will run a credit report on her to determine if they will write her a loan or not. They may, they could turn her down for a variety of reasons (new on the job, income level, payment history, available credit, etc). And if her credit is not as good as yours, chances are the interest rate will be higher than 5.8%. They will also look at the value of the car vrs. the loan amount requested

Q: Where do you get the stuff they use…?
to draw on car windows that advertise the price of the car? Can you give me a price too? I am putting a truck up for sale and don’t want to use the typical For Sale sign. I live in Georgia. Thanks

A: I know my local Wal Mart sells it, don’t know price though.

Q: Does putting someone else’s auto tag and auto insurance in your name give you any ownership of the vehicle?
This was done in the state of Georgia. I bought, own and restored an old VW camper bus. I went short on funds and my girlfriend at the time wanted us to use t he camper bus. Her insurance would be a lot cheaper than mine, so she got a tagand insurance for the bus, but she put them in her name. While we were together, I thought that was fine. But now that we are not together, she thinks that she has part ownership of the vehicle. I have the bill of sale from when I purchased the car, she has never had the such but was supposed to in order to have gotten the tag in her name. In a court of law, where does her old tag get her?

A: Who’s name is on the title? They are the one that owns the car. I’m wondering how she was able to get plates on it if the VW was in your name and her name wasn’t on the title.

Go down to the DMV or county clerks office and get this straightened out. Get the registration in your name and cancel the other tag. It should have never happened but it did now get it straight and then you won’t have any more worries. Good luck with it.

Find a great deal on Chevy Suburban at LemonFree.com Cars

Q: chevy suburban?
How much do you thing a 2002 chevy suburban with 68,000 miles on it is worth? My family wants to sell ours and we wanted someone’s opinion.

A: First of all, let me say that I am a used car manager at a chevy dealership in southern CA and that we are practically turning down everyone that comes in with a big, old suv or giving them little for what is worth.
the car market went down when gas prices rose
(especially in CA). If you brought me that car today and it was in perfect condition…i would at most give you $3500.

the reason for the low price is that we go by the wholesale book and we NEVER repeat NEVER recieve a trade unless its around $1000 below the wholesale value. But since your car is dead cold on the market…its useless to any dealer.

I recommend you sell to an individual rather an an dealership.

Q: Chevy Suburban -?
Does anyone know the average mileage/lifespan of a Chevy Suburban? If you need a year, we’re eyeballing the 2001’s.

A: My father owns a 2001 and damn he travels all over the place with it. He loves being in the road. MY parents are never at home and the burban has 309,425 miles on it he bought it new but the burban has her maintence when it needs it ( like oil changes and fluid flushes ) the only thing he had to change on it was the alternator due to the car audio and video system and the starter dont know why but it still runs like new but a little rough on the gas peddlenot as soft as it was new.

Q: What causes my Chevy Suburban to be squeaky when on the road?
I have a 2000 Chevy Suburban and I keep hearing a squeaky/ squealing sound when diving. First it started from the left from passenger tire. Now I hear the squeaking all around the Suburban it squeaks and squeals all the time no matter how fast or slow you go. The only time you don’t hear the noise is when its parked or at a light. We have had new tires put on it and have had the brakes done recently. What could be causing the suburban to sound so bad.

A: Yes, it could be wheel bearings, rear end, or transfer case if its a 4×4. But also check your fan or brakes. Do you you ride your brakes down a hill? If you downshift it into 3,2, 0r 1 it will save all of your drive train parts,. Just a tip to prevent more stuff.

Q: Chevy SUBURBAN!!!?
I want the biggest size 1992-1999 Suburban.
The Full Size one.
Is the 2500 the bigger one then the 1500.
whats the longest sized one?

A: no difference in size, 2500 is usually a little taller due to heavy duty suspension and bigger wheels/tires. But length and cargo capacity is the same 92-99 had 5.7, 7.4 and after 93 6.5 (diesel). The long wheelbase is a Suburban, anything shorter is a Tahoe.
The Duramax was not available until 01, and is still not a Suburban option. Nor was there ever a 3500 Suburban.
If you don’t need to tow over 5000lbs stick with the 1500, a little cheaper to operate.

Q: How big is the stock sub for a chevy suburban?
I have a 2002 chevy suburban with the blown sub woofer looking to replace it how big is the stock sub for the chevy? 8 or 10 inch? anyone know? any websites that might say?

A: If you are talking about the BOSE stereo system sub, it’s an 8″, but it’s not the kind you will find at any old store, it’s a very specially designed low impedance, free air sub, which you have to purchase through BOSE to get a replacement.

Q: How much would it cost to repaint a 1993 Chevy Suburban?
So I have a 1993 chevy suburban in maroon and want to repaint it the same color.

Are there any places that do a good job but don’t charge more than $500?

A: If you can do it your self around 500 dollars . To get it done right around $3000 give or take .

Q: Can an improper radiator flush cause a water pump failure on a Chevy Suburban?
I recently got a radiator flush on my 2003 Chevy Suburban (as part of a 60,000 service). Two weeks later there’s coolant on the garage floor and I’m forced to spend $500+ to replace the water pump. Coincidence? Or, did the dealer screw up something as part of the 60,000 mile service?

A: I’d assume it is just a coincidence. The only way I could see a coolant flush destroying the waterpump is if something solid entered your cooling system while they replaced the anti-freeze and that solid object jammed the pump blades.

Q: What is the Oil Capacity of 1998 Chevy Suburban?
I am changing my oil, so how much new oil do I put back in? It is 1998 Chevy Suburban K1500 with 5.7L V8. Also, should I use synthetic oil in Hawaii, or is it just a waste of money?

A: Put in five quarts, run the engine for a couple of minutes, turn off and wait a minute for the oil to drain back down into the oil pan and check again. You may have to add a little more so I would buy six quarts. I personally am a Valvoline man but synthetic oil is good. It’s a preference thing. I have never had a problem with Valvoline and I’ve saved Lot’s of money in the meantime.

Q: Is it safe for an almost 17 year old new driver to drive a Chevy suburban?
We have a daughter that will be 17 in Jan. We have been taking her out driving and preparing her for her driving test and the road so when school starts she can start transporting herself and her sister to and from school. However, we have a Chevy suburban that my husband wants her to drive instead of buying her a smaller more manageable car. He believes that since it is so big they will be safer. I have heard differentl, that it gives them a false sense of security. I am not sure what to think about any of this. Anyone had experience with any of this? Any information about this would be appreciated, thanks.

A: the Chevy suburban is a real safe vehicle ,but she may not have enough driving experience to handle this large of a vehicle, they are kind of hard to get used to ,but there one of the safest ones on the road today,i think though its lot of vehicle for a younger person to be driving, and it may turn out to be more than she can handle also,if it were me id buy her a smaller SUV if safety is a big concern ,and i know it is,this way she could get use to driving hero own vehicle,a smaller one would be ok for her,but a full size suburban may create problems for her, good luck on this one,he,s just wanting her to be safe, and i know how he feels, i have 2 daughters also, and was the same way.

Q: How to hook up a line out converter to a chevy suburban?
i have a chevy suburban and i have to put in a line out conv to get a signal to my amp, i was wondering if anyone knew how to get to the subwoofer in the rear without breaking the plastic and how to hook up a line out conv. any help is appreciated.

A: line out conv. you hook into the rear speaker wires

Q: why does my Chevy suburban have 2 batteries ?
I just bought a 1997 Chevy suburban, and i popped the hood, to check my fluid levels and saw that the beast has 2 Batteries, anyone know why it has/needs 2 batts.
No it does not have a diesel engine, its gasoline, and its all orignal.no add ons .i.e updated radio, monitors or anything to that effect, IT DOES have a class 4 towing hitch tho.

A: The two battery option on a gas engine truck was part of the ‘cold weather package’ it gives you increased cranking power for cold starts in extreme weather. If you live south of Green bay Wisconsin you can take one of the batterys out.

Q: Does the 1999 Chevy Suburban have a fuel cut-off switch?
1999 Chevy Suburban K1500 4×4 LT. Is there a fuel cut off switch somewhere one this model?
If it does have a fuel cut off, where is the switch to turn it back on?

A: -IF- your vehicle has the cut off, (not sure they used them in ‘99) then i believe it would be behind the kick panel on the passenger side near the floor just in front of the door. Mostly these inertia cut offs are used in the newest gm cars and trucks (last 4 or 5 years) and they rarely fail or trip due to anything other than a collision. they are only there to shut the fuel pump off in the event of an accident.

SIDE NOTE: have you checked your other posting about the fuel pump fuse? i left instruction on locating the fuse. if you can’t get verification on which ecm fuse it is then check them all. did you find it? if you found the fuse and still can’t get your pump to kick on then i can say with 99.9% confidence that you will need to replace your fuel pump. when you do, make sure you replace the connector that comes with it. they give you the new one for a very good reason and you’d do yourself a big favor to read the paper that comes with the pump before you just throw out the paper and wire harness.

Q: Where to find a hood ornament for a 1991 Chevy Suburban?
I am looking to surprise my hubby with a hood ornament for his 1991 Chevy Suburban 1500. I’m looking for a used part. I have contacted the chevy shop and they only have new ones. Ebay only will take pay pal. I don’t know where to find one. If you know please help me out.

A: lmc truck has new ones for around $160.00

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/csb/full.aspx?Page=82

looks like your best bet is to contact the ebay sellers and ask if they will take a form of payment other that paypal (the listings say paypal preferred not paypay only)

http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Parts-Accessories-/6028/i.html?_nkw=chevy+suburban+hood+ornament+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=chevy+suburban+hood+orniment&_rdc=1

otherwise you will need to scour auto recycling yards (junk yards) in your area.

one other choice is to sign up for a paypal account.

hope this helps

Q: Where is the AC low pressure port on my 1995 Chevy Suburban?
Im wanting to recharge my ac in my 1995 chevy suburban. I have a can of R134 to recharge my ac and is says to hook up the hose to the low pressure port.

A: i charged my oldsmobile,s AC and i went to that small canister back by the firewall. it has a small valve on the side which i hooked up the hose to and charged it from there.

Q: are the front end of a 97 gmc suburban and a chevy suburban interchangeable?
im about to get my brother in law’s dad’s 1997 GMC suburban.
its a great looking car but i dont like the front end.
i like how the chevy’s look better in their front end with the grill and the emblems and stuff.

my question is, could i go to a junk yard, find a front end off of a 1997 chevy suburban, and put it on the front end of a 1997 GMC suburban??

does anyone know?

A: Except for trim pieces, yes. It’s only sheet metal.

Find a great deal on Toyota Tacoma at LemonFree.com Cars

Q: Toyota tacoma?
I am trying to get a cold air intake for my 1999 2.7 L toyota tacoma. I don’t want to spend a lot of money. I found a cold air intake for the 3.4 L V6 for about $70. Would that system fit on my 2.7 four cylinder.
i know that 4 and 6 cylinder have different parts, but the air boxes are in the same location along with the throttle body and the tube for the air intake.

A: No, 4 cyl and 6 cyl are not compatable for parts.

Q: toyota tacoma??
I need to buy a toyota tacoma between 1995 and 1999 can anyone please let me know if you have any info on one and please no craiglist i already checked.

A: Try these sites.

http://www.autotrader.com

http://www.cars.com

Q: TOYOTA TACOMA………?
i got an 05 toyota tacoma for for my fist car. about how much will it cost me to lift it up about 2 inches? and can any mechanic do it? oh and will it mess anything up? like shox?

A: Depends on the type lift?
A body lift would be easier and cheap(er) if you are going 2″ and will allow for bigger tires. The cost of the body lift is about $150.00 I’d just go ahead and do 3″ since they make 2″, and 3″ body lifts.

I paid 150.00 for my lift on a 1999 Tacoma. (I now have a stock 2005 Tacoma)

A suspension lift would be more expensive, but it will get the frame of the truck higher off the ground 2″. It will cost around $1,250.00

As for labor, you will need to find a place that 4×4 off road work
if you are going body lift. Most big name brand shops don’t fool with body lifts. I did 3 body lifts on Toyota Tacomas, Labor is about 6-7 hours.

As for the suspension lift, some Auto shops do them.
But they’ll only do them if you buy the parts from them.
Labor is the same for a suspension also.Around 7 hours.

Q: Toyota Tacoma ?
Hi, i am seriously thinking about purchasing an 06 or 07 Tacoma double cab with the 4.0 v6. Does anone have any comments or complaints about this truck? Also has anyone used it for towing? I currently own a 98 f-150 4×4 and occasionally use it to tow my Mustang and trailer to the track. It roughly has the same h.p. rating as the Tacoma but torque output i’m unsure of. Has anyone towed a vehicle with the Tacoma, if so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry forgot that little detail, it’s the 4.6

A: Your Tacoma will tow your mustang just fine, The 4.0 is a very strong engine, you do realize that you are going from a full size truck to more of a compact truck so the towing behavior will be different. You may be a little disappointed with the fuel mileage, but the strong performance will make up for that. Not sure if you have a 4.6 or 5.4 in your F150. I say for occasional towing you will be fine. Toyota quality is far superior, and they are great looking trucks.

Q: How much would it cost to get toyota tacoma completely fitted out approximately?
Might be getting a toyota tacoma 1997-2003, 4×4, with extended cab. How much would it cost to get it completely fitted out im talkin 3 inc lift, swamper tires, winch, toolbox, all the good stuff. Even if i got everything the cheapest i could give me an approximate.(also i would like more suggestions for wat to get those are just things off the top of my head.

A: You should probably check the frame to make sure it’s not rusting in half like Tacoma’s do, before you go getting it “outfitted” with “swamper tires” and a lift kit.

Q: What are the best modifications for a 99 toyota tacoma?
I just bought a ‘99 Toyota Tacoma with the TRD package. Can anyone tell me what some good modifications are as far as air intakes, headers, etc.? I’m especially looking for people who have already done these modifications and what kind of gains they got from them.

A: I don’t have a Tacoma but I had a T-100 and I have a 2001 Tundra that I bought new, Both of these trucks were used to deliver Mail I put the equivalent of 380,000 miles on the T-100 and then I bought the Tundra and I put the equivalent 500,000 miles on it. These are not real mills but are taken from a clock in either case both vehicles were operated for under $1000 for a 4 year period of time each, before them I drove Fords and my cost of keeping them on the road was between $12,000 and $18,000 for a like amount of time only not going as far, more like 340,000 for the four year time frame. It is yours and your choice but if I was you I would keep it just the way it is. I drove 24 new Fords before I bought my first Toyota and now I wouldn’t let you park one in my drive way.

Edit note; I wish that Fords were near as good but I am sorry they just aren’t, I counted on my truck to earn a living

Q: Toyota Tacoma, if it fails test, can dealer trade you a car right then and there then receive check?
Also, what ar ethe percentages of these Tacomas failing. 99 Toyota Tacoma here, taking it in this week.

A: I assume that you are talking about the frame rust thing. If you live in the rust belt, Chicago, Detroit etc. the chances are pretty good it may fail. Call your dealer and ask him what your options are. I have heard that some trucks are just getting new frames now.

Q: How do I get anywhere with a complaint against a Toyota Tacoma rusty frame?
My 2005 Toyota Tacoma with 55k miles has a rusty looking frame. It is not rusted through, just really ugly start for a 3-4 year old truck. I called Toyota and checked for recall with my Vin# and nothing was recalled. They told me to go to a dealer and have them check it out. Any advice on what I can do in adition to this?

A: Go to a dealer and have them check it out.

Q: what is the best combination for a sound system in a toyota tacoma truck?
Im getting a toyota tacoma, and im wanting to put a sound system in it, with good quality sound. Im wondering what type and what size speakers i should get and what amp to go along with it?

A: If you’re new to car audio, you probably dont know something that you should. JL Audio makes the best of everything. Speakers, amps, subs, crossovers, EVERYTHING. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

I’d go with some nice 10″ subs to go underneath the seats or behind the rear seats. JL w3s are VERY good speakers. You could get a nice $150 alpine deck and a kenwood amp for around $500 total.

email me with questions
good luck

Q: what is the average price for a black 2004 toyota tacoma automactic?
I am going to be buying a vehicle soon and I want to get a Black 2004 Toyota Tacoma and I need to know the average cost of them. Please let me know. Thank you.

A: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresults.jsp?num_records=100&search_lang=en&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&search_type=both&distance=0&address=90210&marketZipError=false&style_flag=1&make=TOYOTA&model=TACOMA&make2=&start_year=2003&end_year=2004&min_price=1&max_price=1000000&seller_type=b&transmission=&engine=&drive=&doors=&fuel=&max_mileage=&color=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&keywords_display=&sort_type=priceDESC&body_code=0&certified=&advanced=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&showZipError=n&default_sort=priceDESC&awsp=false&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&systime=&rdm=1234839132999

Q: How does my jeep compare to a Toyota Tacoma 4×4?
I’m just curious I have a jeep wrangler and I love it to death and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m just curious how does it compare off road to a Toyota Tacoma 4×4. Both being bone stock. I know this is probably one of those both have pros and cons type question but I’d like hear everyones opinion.

A: I have a Tacoma, it’s been a great truck and I’ve driven thousands of offroad trails without a problem. Reliability has been great, (I have an 04) and I’m sure if I decide to sell it I’ll be able to get more than a Jeep of the same year. It’s also much quieter on the road than a Jeep, and it’s comforting to know that Toyota is not going bankrupt in the next couple of months.

That being said, I imagine a shorter wheelbase, solid axel vehicle like the jeep will perform better offroad in most situations than a longer wheelbase, IFS vehicle like the Tacoma.

Q: Where can I find a front drivers side seat for a 98 toyota tacoma?
I have a 98 Toyota tacoma and I have been searching for ages for a new front drivers side seat. Can anyone tell me where the best place to find one would be or point me in the direction of one? Would the seats from a 96, 97, 99, 2000 tacoma fit the car? I really need to find this seat fast, its the last part I need to completely restore my truck.

A: What I’ve done in the past is contact the bigger or cheaper auto wreckers and compare their prices and then I’ve compared the U pick auto wreckers prices and usually I end up pulling out the seats myself. Then I clean and even soap scrub the seats , allow them to sit and dry then install them using new bolts etc if possible.

To me if you want both seats to match either you need to remove or buy two seats clean etc or have the two old seats you in it reupholstered by a auto custom upholstery shop.Really if you’ve the cash you could order new seats or even have them custom made for you.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way 100% you can buy used seats for it bec now a days most of the auto wreckers all are connected to each other via the net etc and if the wreckers in your area don’t have the part you can get them to order them for you through their contacts.

Q: Would a Toyota Tacoma be able to hold the box springs to a double/full bed?
I have to move a double/full sized bed this evening. I thought I’d only have a Ford Escape available, but now it looks like I’d have access to a Toyota Tacoma as well. Which would be better? I’m mostly concerned with the box springs since it’s the largest and most inflexible piece. Thanks!

A: you and your box springs.

yeah, they’ll fit, although they might lay sideways with one side up on the top of the side of the bed. just tie them down and all is well. the tire humps is what will be the problem, but laying sideways will be fine.

Q: How difficult is it to install A/C in a 95 Toyota Tacoma?
I’m looking at buying a 95 Toyota Tacoma. A/C was an option and the original owner did not have it installed. The bolt are there to install it but how hard would it be. I’m somewhat handy. Is this something a mechanic would have to do or what?

A: Will be cheaper to look for a truck with the AC already installed, even if you may need to have that one’s AC fixed.

Q: Which was the last year that the Toyota Tacoma was made in Japan?
I want to buy a Toyota Tacoma but was looking at the 2009 models and they are assembled in Tijuana ,Mexico. I know Toyota is still a high quality vehicle even though this is the case, but I would rather get a slightly older model that was made in JAPAN- Transmission and Engine Which was the last model year where the Truck was made/ assembled in Japan? Thanks.
The sticker on the 2009 models say 35% parts from Japan but none are for the Engine or Transmission. Those parts state made in USA.

A: The bed for the Tacoma is manufactured in Mexico, but the Truck itself is assembled at the NUMMI plant in California. That has been the case since the introduction of the “Tacoma” from the “Toyota Truck”. The last “truck” that Toyota produced in Japan for sale in the US was the T100 before the introduction of the Tundra which replaced it and is was produced in Princeton, Indiana, and now in San Antonia, Texas.

Hope this helps.

Q: 1996 chevy impala SS.?
ok i am looking for a 1996 impala SS.im my research i have seen that the SS is a 5.7 liter V8 LTI engine. but when i see these some have the corvette simble by the front tire, but some dont. do u not get the LTI engine. do u get a lower performance one when thats not thier, on it or is it just their on some and not some?? please help. bottom like does that symbol make a difference in the engine.
thx everyone and thats funny im from saint louis

A: Zach, that emblem was not available from the factory whatsoever. That emblem is simply a very popular ‘add-on’ that people put on since the LT1 came from the Corvette at the time. All the SS Impala’s from ‘94 to ‘96 came with the same LT1 engine.

Back in the late 1990’s, My friends brother helped start the Impala SS club in St. Louis called GRAIL which stands for ‘Greater Regional Area Impala Lovers’. I was always around these cars from the time they started making them. He was one of the 1st to put the ‘crossed flag’ emblem on. He was also one of the 1st to have his factory SS wheels chromed.

FYI, The biggest difference between the 3 years is this: ‘94 and ‘95 had a digital speedometer and a column shifter with a console with cup holders. The ‘96 had an analog speedometer and a shifter in the console. To me the ‘96 is a tad sportier because of it.
I’ve wanted any year SS forever! I just did a front end alignment on my friends moms ‘95 SS.

Hope this helps.

edit: Cool! I’m in south county/Oakville.
Here’s GRAIL’s website! —-> http://www.grail-ss.com/

Q: I have a 1996 chevy impala ss, what would cause oil in my radiator overflow?

A: Check the transmission fluid level. Could be the trans oil cooler…it’s part of the radiator. If it is, it’s bad news for the transmission too.

Q: will my 2002 grandmarquis wheels fit on a 1996 chevy impala ss?
i’m trying to sell my 22 inch wheels for someone who has a impala ss,this is for the smart asses out there.

A: no they will not, the lug patterns are different

Q: What do you think of the 1994-1996 Chevy Impala ss?

A: Great, great cars. Comfortable, GREAT cruising cars. They’re heavy as hell but since it has a LT1 there are a TON of aftermarket parts out there.

Here’s a good tech site for them.

http://www.impalassforum.com/

Q: What you think about 1996 chevy impala ss?

A: One of the more memorable descriptions I’ve heard of it is “A cop car in a tuxedo.” It’s the last of the rear wheel drive Impalas. It has a cult following that keeps the resale value up. Drivetrain is pretty robust, although it may have the Optispark ignition, which is prone to having water collect in it and short it out. I can’t remember what years had that. But even if it does, there’s a fix available for that.

If you want to buy one, make sure it’s in good condition. Even though the drivetrain is fairly durable, it’s still a 10 year old car. And if you get one with a ratty interior, you’ll probably pay more to have it fixed than what you would have spent on getting a cleaner car.

Q: 1996 chevy impala ss?
im looking for a 1996 chevy impala that’s in good condition and has a good price i live in montgomery alabama and im tryin to find one that’s close like in georgia or south caroilina somewhere

A: You should stop by your local Chevy dealers show room. All Chevy dealers have a locator system for new and used Chevy’s.Tell them what you want and they will run a locator search and find what you need.Best of luck.

Q: im looking for a 1996 Chevy Impala SS?
hopefully looking to spend no more then 5 grand as i am going to be putting alot of work/parts into it.including but not limited to 26 inch rims, lambo doors,a full 2 foot lift kit so on so forth.

A: Why would you want to ruin a perfectly good car with making it look retarded like a monster truck? I’m sorry but the older impalas are NOT the cars you do this too. This has to be the stupidest fad that has come to light in the past few years. If you want to do it right get some 14″ Daytons, 4 pump set-up and make the car proud. Big wheels = Small deals!!! Everybody i know laughs at these cars when we see them. It looks just plain stupid.

Q: Which car is the sweetest overall? A 1971 Chevy Impala Custom Coupe (donk) or a 1996 Chevy Impala SS?
Which car is better overall?

A: both…. u gotta love the classic and the modern

of course the 71 wuz offered in stick shift so i would lean more for the 71 than the 96

Q: 1996 Chevy Impala ss OWNERS ANSWER PLEASE!!!!?
i was thinking of buying a 96 chevy impala, i was wondering wat are the pros and the cons of this car. and what is a good price for this car right now??? if i do decide to buy this car i want to rebuild the engine and twin turbo charge it. would be able to rebuild the engine over maybe like 5 years but still be able to use it as an everyday car??? the TT kit can be installed in 1 day and be able to drive it the next so the TT wont be a problem….

A: good choice dude my mother had 1 about 10 years ago (we traded because she dont drive her cars after 1 year) but she put 49,000 miles on it and never had a problem. the price will never go down because they are rare and they will just increase in value,
and a good price
excellent: $18,995 – $25,995
good: $12,995 – $17,995
fair: $7,995 – $11,995
poor: $4,995 – $6,995
bad: $995 – $3995

Q: Is there a 1996 Chevy Impala SS out there at a reasonable price in Georgia?
Middle Georgia Area

A: Here is the closest one to you on Ebay.

Its in Columbia SC

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-BLACK-SS-AUTO-CHEVY-SPOILER-ABS-LEATHER-4-DOOR_W0QQitemZ130002842920QQihZ003QQcategoryZ6169QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Q: 1994-1996 Chevy Impala SS?
What is the bolt pattern on the Impalas from 1994-1996?

A: 5 lug on 4 3/4 circle.

Q: was there ever a 1994 thru 1996 chevy impala ss with digital speedo & floor shifter?

A: 94 & 95 had the digital dash. ‘96 was the only year for the floor shifter and all ‘96 Impala’s had analog gages, so if you’re asking if there was a year that had both, then the answer is no.

Q: Rare 1996 Chevy Impala SS for sale!?
has original 13 thousand miles, leather interior, and impeccably clean! In Southern California..

have pics to send!
Selling the car for $23k OBO

A: I wish you were in CT, i love that car!!

Q: I’m Looking For a 1996 Chevy Impala SS.?
And it needs to be cheap-ish, you know where i can get one?

A: Good luck.

Q: Is this 1996 Chevy Impala SS worth $6,500?
I found this car in Yahoo Autos today and also is there a way I can find out how many mpg this car gets?

A: no its not, there’s a lot better deals out there right now on impala,s with less mileage on then than that one has,i wouldn’t be too quick to jump on that one, look around a little bit more, with gas being at what it is right now your not going to get the best mileage in the world with it,but there’s other impala,s and newer than that one for less money, its a good looking car but not worth that much money, good luck on it.

Q: Honda Civic???
Im 15 years old, i have a 2001 VW jetta, i want to sell the jetta and buy a 98-00 Honda Civic manual trasnmition. I want to tune it up with a nice body kit, muffler tip and spoiler. Do yall think its a good idea, or should i buy another type of car that goes fast?
Or what other car is good to customize, somthing not more than $18,000

A: wow u gota big budget…ur set..u tryin 2 go big get urself a 99-00 SI and with the rest of da money tune it…dat b16a2 will go far with some money invested…or get urself a 91-95 ex nd swap da d16z6 with any b series…make sure it has vtec..and it fits the bay without 2 much modifications…and ur set…and w.e u have left…get more performance parts..u dun really need a spoiler and a big muffler tip unless u want it…many people mite call u a “ricer’ for having such mods..so thats all up 2 u

Q: honda civic?
iight guys this is the whole thing i gotta honda civic 95 and its automatic, how much would i need to convert it to a stick shift??? or is there a shop that i can have it done?????

A: no it does not go to another place to answer ?’s it will cost as much as the junkyard will sell it for no more then 700 the only thing is you will need to buy a new clutch i would not get it from a junkyard everything bolts right up except the shift linkage you will need to drill 2 holes on the bottom of the car after you take the auto assembly out but other than that your good the 92-95 civics should already have the bracket there for the clutch pedal so good luck

Q: honda Civic?
Is their any way to make my 2001 honda civic go faster without having to buy parts?

A: take out the passenger seats… and dont put anything in the trunk… This will make your car lighter… which makes it faster.

Q: Honda civic?
Does anyone know when you should replace shocks on a 2000 Honda Civic?

A: They don’t have shocks, they have struts and they last a long time. Check them by driving down the street and see if it bounces as you drive if not then don’t worry about them. If you look under the car at the strut (inside the big spring) and see any fluid running down the strut then they are leaking and have to be changed

Q: Will my little Honda Civic make it from the Midwest to Washington?
I have a 2000 Honda Civic and am planning a move from St Louis to Washington next month. I would like to just take my car and some belongings, but I worry about the car making it through the mountains. Any thoughts?

A: it should make it as long as its been looked after and has decent tyres.
if you are really nervous about it do some checks on it like check the oil and water levels.
if you dont know much about cars ask a mechanic to do the checks first before setting off.

Q: I have an 89 honda civic and I need to convert the injectors from 2 to 4, How can i do it?
I have a 89 honda civic and I bought a vtech engine that came from 94 civic. The 89 civic is 2 injectors and the 94 civic is 4 injectors. What do I have to buy, and how do i Install it in order to convert it from 2 to 4 injectors?

A: I dont remember hondas having 2 injectors or throttlebody injection. but I’ll try to work with the info you gave me. YOu will need the entire engine wiring harness and the computer to run the 4 injectors. step by step intructions are too complicated to put here. You could have picked an easier project like building a bridge to hawaii. I think you got in a little too deep

Q: Why wont my 1989 Honda Civic start without rolling down a hill to pop the clutch?
My 1989 Honda Civic will not start without rolling down a hill to pop the clutch. I thought it might be the battery, but once I chnaged it, the car did the same thing. Does that mean the clutch has gone bad or is it something else?

A: It could be anything except what you mentioned. Obviously, the clutch and transmission and engine is working great.

Could be just about anything in the charging/starting system. Starter, battery, alternator, switches, or other things. I’d start simple. If you “jump start” the car, does that work? I’d try that and if it works you know the starter and switch is good. If you can’t jump start it then it’s the starter/solenoid, (probably) or maybe a bad wire or switch.
If it does start when “jumped” then I’d suspect the battery. The alternator is a possibility, but you said you charged the battery, so if it was a bad alternator, (causing the battery to go flat due to lack of charging current) then charging the battery would have fixed it temporarily. So that would leave the battery. Even though you applied a charge to it, that doesn’t mean it did charge up. In fact, that’s the definition of a bad battery.
I’ve heard of other more esoteric problems such as faulty switches in the transmission or things like that, so if all the obvious things check out OK then you have to start digging. Good luck

Q: How long did your Honda Civic last before having major problems?
How long (in both miles AND years) did your Honda Civic last, before having major mechanical problems? Please also indicate whether you live in a snowy area or in a place like California where the conditions favor car longevity.

A: we have a 2001 accord (basically the same as a civic) and it has 185,000 miles and counting. there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with it. we live in michigan (snow land). i’d drive it to south america tomorrow if needed. it’s been such a good car to us.

Q: Is it honda civic model changing in 2009?
Please somebody let me know weather honda civic model is going to change in UAE in 2009.Cozzz am planning to go for HONDA CIVIC.

A: Umm…car manufacturers (actually most major manufacturers of any technological product) continuously update and release new models/upgrades each year so whatever you do, there’s bound to be new stuff released all the time.

Q: How far can a Honda Civic and a Prius go on Electric mode?
How many miles can a Honda Civic and a Prius go when the battery is fully charged. (civic hybrid and prius hybrid car)

A: Hi,

stay with me and I’ll give you the full answer.

Actually, both vehicles are “full hybrids” meaning they can run under electric-only mode for short distances at low speeds.

The Civic was just upgraded to a full hybrid in 2006, but the Prius has always been a full hybrid.

The Prius system will take you further, up to 25 miles in stop and go traffic, with the regenerative braking system. And the Prius will go faster, up to 25 mph, with careful acceleration.

The Civic system is not able to do either of those marks. It uses Honda’s hybrid system called the “Integrated Motor Assist” and it’s mostly designed to boost the gas engine, not run on electric mode for any length of time.

Essentially, you have two different vehicles. The Prius is a mid-sized sedan that is more equal to a Camry or Accord for features, technology, price, and comfort. The Civic is a compact and is on the same level as a Corolla for features, tech (excluding the IMA), price and comfort.

Not to say either is better than the other for what they do. They are just different, just as the Civic is to the Accord or the Corolla is to the Prius.

One last note, Prius sold in Europe and Asia come with an “EV” mode button. Pressing that button disables the gas engine for city driving. That is where the 25 mph/25 miles distance come into play.

We don’t have that ability here in the US because our driving conditions are too different from theirs to justify having it here. Basically, we drive longer distances in our urban environments and Americans drive faster over those long distances and would overcome the EV mode too easily. (We also don’t get the auto parking option that the Prius’ over there have (similar system on Lexus GS here in the US) because thier parking is so much tighter there on average.)

The Civic isn’t available with an EV mode at all, here or there.

BTW, to answer the previous post…

Computer system updates / changes / etc. for the Prius are covered by Toyota during the 8 year or 100,000 mile warranty period. And a safe bet would be that Toyota would update your Prius any time an update would be needed after that.

Every manufacturer has computer upgrades, even Volkswagen.

And as far as less parts go, Prius have no throttle cables (electronic acceleration), no steering pumps or steering belts (electronic steering), no starters, no alternators, no distributors, each cylinder is individually controlled with it’s own fuel injector, a sealed CVT so no regular transmission, and with the regenerative barking system, you should never have to replace the brake pads because the generator does almost all of your braking.

Anyway, if you’d like any more details, read my other posts or contact me.

Q: What other engines would fit my 2000 honda civic if i wanted to engine swap?
Hi i am looking to engine swap my 2000 honda civic (coupe) and don’t know what other engines fit its body. Like what engines from other stock cars and/or and turbo or improved engines made for the civic are there?
thanks.

A: Any engine will fit any car. i have seen a CRX (really small honda) with a V8 in it. it was a beast. i would go with the K20 as well or second choice a B18, or H22. all three are great engines.

Q: What is the difference between a Honda civic and Honda Prelude? What’s better for upgrading for performance?
I love both the Honda Prelude and Civic hb and plan on getting one of the two soon. I want to have a car that has a lot of options as far as upgrading the performance of the car. Which car would be better for that? I preferably want to stay with Honda, but are there any other cars that are specifically good for what I want that may not be Honda?

A: i would say honda civic. the prelude is more powerfull but kinda heavy. consider also the acura integra..lol, i mean RSX. honda has a huge following, so aftermarket will always be available….search websites to see how much modifications will cost for each car. that might help you decide which is more bang for the buck. also, keep in mind that the accord had a larger engine, but the v6 only came with an automatic.

Q: Is it possible to convert my Honda civic by using an electric forklift motor?
I have heard recently that it was possible to convert my Honda Civic by taking out the traditional gas engine and replacing it with an electric motor from a forklift. Ever hear of someone actually doing this? Typical cost? What level of expertise do you need?

A: Given the extreme labor and cost, plus the size of the battery, forget it. Too many factors to consider, like what gear ratio, how to transmit power to the rear or front wheels, where to place the large batteries, and just how many miles would a charge provide?
Taking the drive train out of ther fork lift would be fine, if 5mph or less would satisfy your needs. In that case, just remodel the fork lift and forget the conversion.

Q: Honda Civic Door Gasket Starting to Fall off. How can I BEST stick it back on?
Hello,
I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX 2-Door. The passenger side door gasket is falling off. It dangles and gets caught in the door. Some moisture gets in and also there is a wind noise issue on the expressway. Anyhow, could someone recommend a good adhesive and technique to get the gasket fully back on the door? Pro and expert answers only please; I could think of paste, superglue, etc on my own. Thanks for your help!

A: Use 3M weather strip adhesive. It is great stuff.

Q: What size rims did the 1995 honda civic ex come with?
I bought a 1995 honda civic ex with aftermarket rims, and I’m looking for a factory set of rims but don’t know what size they came with.
I have tried 13in but it’s to small, it doesn’t get pass the brake caliper.

A: The ‘95 Civic EX came with 14″ rims and a tire size of 175/65-14 (sedan) or 185/60-14 (coupe).

Find a great deal on Auto Classifieds at LemonFree.com Cars

Q: Auto Classifieds?
I’m trying to sell my Civic but right now I’m just trying some free classifieds like craigslist to sell it. But that’s about the only one I can really find that seems decent so what are some good ones you guys use? It’s a B18C1 Civic if anyone is interested also!

A: Craigslist.com is the biggest and best free classifieds. Anything else such as eBay, AutoTrader, or newspaper will cost you money.

Q: Where can I find local nj auto classifieds listed by private owners WITHOUT the “noise” ads placed by dealers?
Online classified ads listing autos for sale are getting ridiculous, with all the dealers crowding the sites with their ads. Where are the private owners/sellers?

A: search on craigslist.com and make sure you search under <for sale<cars and trucks<by owner

Q: Do you think there is room on the net for a niche auto classifieds site where every listing is under $10,000?
I just launched www.DirtCheapMotors.com where you can do just that for free!
Well it will eventualy include Boats, Motorcycles, RV’s and Powersports all under $10,000

A: When you need to buy a used car there are so many places on the Internet. The best sites that list used cars are cars.com, autotrader.com and craigslist.com. You can select by price on all these sites. What will make your site unique – that is the challenge.

Q: Best website to find cheap auto classifieds?
I am melting my brain trying to find a good website for auto classifieds. I want the kind where private owners post their cars and try to sell them for reasonable prices. All I seem to be finding are listing from car dealerships or people asking for ridiculous amounts. I am looking for a used (possibly even dinged up) 1993 ford ranger and I am having trouble finding them on the internet for less than $3800, which of course is ridiculous because I wouldn’t pay more than than $1000 for a small, 16 year old pickup truck with 100,000 miles.

A: There are a lot of options available to you on the internet where you can buy and sell your car. Auto classifieds seem to be an ideal form of advertising where you can promote your vehicle with a detailed description with the image of your car. You can also check out Tell-N-Sell.com which allows you to post your auto classifieds for free. They publish a classified newspaper “Tell-N-Sell Shopper” which has the largest selection of Free Savannah Classified ads in the Coastal Empire.

Q: I need SUV’s auto classifieds from regular people selling them in NY, not dealers, anyone can give me a clue?

A: Try yahoo classifieds, craigslist, or, depending where you are in NY, you could try the pennysaver.

Q: The best online classifieds (auto,realestate)4 louisiana, and texas?

A: I don’t know about best but for Louisiana, check out nola.com for everything in the new orleans area, 2theadvocate.com for baton rouge and http://www.gannett.com/web/newspapers.htm for links to most of the other papers in Louisiana….

because other than the newspapers and the local paper auto sales (news on wheels is one in south Louisiana which has dealer ads online at www.newsonwheels.com) that’s all most use in Louisiana.. no real online services that I am aware of that is centralized for multiple sellers

Q: Do you think my new auto classifieds websites could change how dealerships conduct online business?
My websites are new and fairly unknown for the most part:
http://www.sellmyride.ca
http://www.sellmyride.us

http://www.sellmyride.eu

I allow both private sellers and dealerships to list their cars, trucks, ATVs, boats, RVs, motorcycles and more for free.

Now, I realize that me listing my sites here will not bring me a lot of new “business” and may even be frowned upon by some but I would really appreciate your opinion on whether or not my new sites could maybe even lower prices on cars just a little bit.

How would my sites do this?

Well I am thinking that if dealers no longer have to pay upwards of $4000 a month just to list their inventory on other sites this could potentially save them upwards of $48,000 a year in advertising costs. Shouldn’t this lower prices on cars for all of us just a little bit? Or at the very least give everyone a good chance on getting some extras when negotiating with a dealer?

What do you think? A good idea? Yay or nay?

Thank you.

A: Anything is possible but you will need to spend alot of money to get this site on the top of the first page while surfing when someone whats to list their vehicle and also you will need to get this to all dealerships but at the same time you are competing against some very large and well known places that have been around for many years and the cost that the dealerships are paying they use that as a write off on their taxes, but your site does look good…………….

Q: I need top 100 classifieds website – general & theme (industry) wise?
need list of classifieds websites (top ones) by general (all types) and category wise like real estate classifieds, auto classifieds, etc..

A: Tell your teacher that you’re unwilling to do your homework and don’t deserve credit for the assignment.

Q: i want to know the code of auto incrementing a field prefixed by a string?
I am developing a classifieds website…i hav a table called real estate. In that table, when ever a user submits an advertisement. I want a field that is auto incremented but prefixed by a string

For Example :

RL1
RL2
RL3

etc. Please help..

I want codes in either PHP or MY SQL. I hv tried enough. It does’nt work

A: It doesn’t work because autoincrement doesn’t work like that. It’s a numerical field and function in MySQL and you can’t alter it.

You could add a column in your table called “prefix” and set the value to whatever you like (such as a fixed value, or some alpha value based on some condition). Then, when you want to display the prefix and the incremented value, you just cat them together using PHP after fetching them from the table.

Q: What is a good way to sell my car? Online? Classifieds?
Don’t want a lot of Spammers! Craigslist hasn’t worked. Should I try Vehix or Auto Trader? Should I use my newspaper?

A: I think you’re going about this slightly wrong.

Craigslist didn’t fail you.

What happened was you did not list the car in such a way to attract buyers. Poor title, poor asking price, something of that nature.

As an experiment, list it up, for $100. I guarantee, you’ll get tons of responses.

Ebay and CL are the two main ones. With a lot of people moving to CL.

As far as spammers, that’s just the way it goes. If you publish something publicly, people can respond to it. Legit or not.

The newspaper….is a dying breed. Sure, some people still look at it. Not a single person I know does.

Q: made a website, what are the steps to promote it?
finally i made a auto classifieds website, all auto ads will be free for dealers and private sellers. The website is for the usa.

How do i promote it? People wont go there because theres no cars, dealers wont post because people dont go there, (yet). so how do i get it started? any ideas and suggestions?

A: Call a reporter for a local newspaper. Ask if she will interview you. It is perfect for the Saturday newspaper when news is slow. Everyone will discover you..

Q: how do I add drop down menus to my website?
this website is for a auto classifieds, so i want multiple drop down menus, like in auto trader or msn autos where in one drop down menu you select a car make and the next menu gets activated and from it you can select the different car models….(I will be using iweb, imageReady, and dreamweaver)

A:

  choose ome

    Label 1
Label 2

Q: how to get better search engine ranking?
i have finally made my website. now i need traffic. Its a free advertising auto classifieds for the portland oregon area. how can i get alot of traffic without investing any money into it? any ideas? any suggestions?

www.portlandsauto.com

A: Everyone answers this question wrong (which is a good, legitimate one) AND they have been doing so for a long time.

I do not know what you will sell on your website, but consider this: the moment you sell more than one product on your site, you dilute the search engine’s capability to list you by 50%.

Add to this the shear number of websites listing your same product, and the number of pages you have on your site and they have. Go do this (search your product on Google and Yahoo) to get an idea of what you are looking at.

SEO is old news. Try a viral marketing program. Both MySpace and YouTube have 25 million subscribers each. Make a cool video, post a MySpace page with your video also on YouTube, and make a one page mini site tied to selling your product via PayPal. Do this for each product you sell.

Video is the new way to sell and YouTube is the way to do it.

To verify this, go to YouTube.com and type in “pancakes.” View the “Mr. Pancakes II” video. It has over 3 million hits. In it, the main character has a t-shirt on that says “Mr. Pancakes.” To make money, he should have sold the rights to IHOP or Denny’s and turned his t-shirts into an ad space billboard. 3 million sets of eyeballs some company would have paid a LOT to get access to!

People think Google and Yahoo are search engine companies, but they are not; they are advertising companies that give away free search in order to get large quantities of eyeballs in front of their advertising client’s messages.

I work with a company that made a spoof video of Carl’s Jr.’s commercial featuring Paris Hilton. They called us asking to post our video next to theirs on their website. They tracked over 20 million views by doing this, and their execs told us they attribute this video to obtaining an additional $25 million in FREE publicity. The video was shown on Good Morning America and NBC Nightly News, among many other major news outlets.

Everything you need to promote effectively is right before you, but most web based marketing takes a “follow the leader” posture, thus quickly burning out any new channel. But Gen X and Y’ers are opt in with video sharing and texting, so there is less chance of this.

Someone asked Clyde Barrow (of “Bonnie & Clyde) why he robbed banks, and he said “that’s where the money is.”

New methods of marketing will be coming up all the time. SEO will burn out to: all major advertisers have to do is insist that Google and Yahoo not bill them for bogus ad websites and click through from sub-vendor companies that hire people to click but not buy. This will crash this system and search engines won’t have near the power they have now – and this is not only coming, it is coming soon. The “sponsored ads” fuel this business model and watch – like the mortgage meltdown, the whole thing is going to evaporate over night.

Mark my words on this: save this post and pull it up once it happens.

I wrote a White Paper on the RE industry as seen from the street broker’s perspective and it revealed that most thought privately something was grossly wrong with the way transactions were being handled, but the official stance was the downturn was “a momentary blip” in the market. This information was so important that Jeff Davies, the Commissioner of the DRE in CA asked to see my preliminary findings. Safe to say he had good reason, overseeing the sale of the single largest retail purchases in the 4th largest economy on the planet.

Turns out my research was one of the few unbiased reports on what was really going on – without “spin,” hype, PR, or a hidden agenda – at the time.

Q: Recommendations for an Independent Auto Appraiser to estimate/fight the Fair value of my Total Car?
Hi,

My insurance co. has declared my car, which was involved in an accident, as total and have come up with a price which I don’t quite agree with. I could see some cars in local classifieds which are priced ~2K-2.5K above the quoted price by insurance co. I talked to insurance co. about it and they said if I wish to contest it, they would invoke the “appraisal clause” whereby my appointed appraiser and theirs would negotiate the settlement.

So, just wondering if someone has any experience/recommendation for an Independent Auto Appraiser who can estimate the fair value of my car based on market research and then *fight* on my behalf.

Also, if someone has any comments/feedback about the futility of that approach, would be really appreciated. Should I just accept what I am offered…

Thanks
Steve

A: You can try to get more: Get a couple of auto “experts” to give you a written appraisal of your car

Q: i need to make my script urls to be search engine freindly?
i have a auto website, free auto classifieds. this is the link to the ferrari classified. portlandsauto.com/details.php?id=140

the (1999 ferrari 360) is the title of the ad.

any idea how to do that?

thanks

* i placed spaces in the url because the rest of it was hiding when previewing it

A: http://www.sitepoint.com/article/search-engine-friendly-urls/

This article shows you to easily create and use friendly URLs. In order to use it dynamically you have to create the links by pulling from the database more than the id number.
