Q: find engine sizes for a 1964 ford falcon?
I am looking to put a engine in my son’s 1964 falcon, he has a 170 but I am looking to put a 200 or possibly a 262 if I do not have to do any reconstruction of the engine compartment, such as rearranging motor mounts etc…
any suggestions? I will also be having a new transmission dropped in at the same time.

A: In 1964 factory installation was a L6, 144.3 – 170.0 – 200.0 – and V8, 260.0, 116 hp.

Q: 1964 Ford Falcon: How to identify the difference between the 260 and 289 manifold.?
How can I determine whether I have a 260 or 289 manifold?

A: there should be a casting number on it starting with C4 for 64 or C5 for 65, also look at the road draft tube in the rear, early ones had it. but there were some very early 289’s that will look the same, so you can’t really tell…

oh, I almost forgot the easiest, 4 barrels are all 289, any 260 will be a 2 barrel.. and a 2 barrel 289 will be a C5 at least for Mustangs..not 100% for sure about Falcons..

Q: How much should I ask for both doors from a 1964 Ford Falcon 2dr Hardtop?
These are very solid straight doors, freshly painted, not professional, I see one run for sure, thanx for the input!

A: Depends on how fast you want to sell them. Freshly painted means nothing since they’ll need to be repainted anyway to match whatever car they’ll be mounted to. You would have been better off not having them painted, gives the buyer a look at the original condition and verify no dents have been filled. $200 to $300 is reasonable, anything higher will take longer to sell. If you’re using free ads then time isn’t an issue.

Q: looking to purchase a 1964 ford falcon 6 cylinder engine?
1964 falcon convert able located in ca. the present engine has a cracked block and cannot be rebuilt. i have searched everywhere…engine must run, will consider shipping from anywhere in u.s.

A: If I were you… I’d make sure the block is truly unusable. Any cylinder wall that’s cracked can usually be bored out and sleeved. That’s a normal fix. However, cracked water jackets not associated with the cylinder wall are another story… etc-etc-etc. If you don’t know what’s what, get the opinion of a long standing automotive machine shop in your area. They will tell you whether or not a block can be sleeved or if it’s really shot. There are also a few motor welding companies across the country that are very successful with certain repairs too… but repairs of this nature (oven brazing and cast iron welding) are usually expensive thus are reserved for expensive and rare blocks. If your car is a numbers matching car… you might choose to look into doing what it takes to save the block though. I would. If worse comes to worst, turn the block into a coffee table. After you fully degrease and paint it. Why? Because you never know what the future holds for repairs… and some day, your block might be able to be saved. They’re doing amazing things with lasers these days… including in the realm of welding.

OK, you didn’t say what engine you have… but if it’s a stock engine it should be a 144 or 170 unless someone transplanted in a 200, 250, 240 or 300. I doubt you have a 250, 240 or 300 though… but I couldn’t rule it out either so I decided to bring them up. For a stock engine, either the 144 or 170 isn’t that good of an engine. By design they’re weaker than later inlines… but they can be hopped up a little bit to get a bit more HP out of them. Finding one won’t be easy… but more on that later.

In case you have a 200, it’ll be better than the 144 or 170 due to it being a better design than the others. You can also hop it up more… in fact, overall, more speed parts are available for the 200 than the other engines. Can a 200 really be hopped up? Sure. You can DOUBLE the HP if you want to spend the money. It has 7 main bearings (stout block, smooth operation) and quite a few speed parts available for it: header sets, bolt on intakes (after you machine the head to allow them to be bolted on), etc-etc-etc. You can actually do a lot with them if you want to.

As for the others I listed, the best of the bunch is the 300. The 250 is an enlarged 200 for the most part… and that’s OK… but the 300 is the pinnacle. It is Ford’s longest running engine. Ford turned it into an EFI engine back in 1987 and there are lots of parts available for it. In fact, you can get 400 HP or more out of it if you want to… reliable HP too. The 240 came before the 300… and the block is the same. The crank for the 300 is different (longer stroke) and the 240 head gives higher compression but the engines for the most part use the same parts and are interchangeable.

Let’s look at your car. If you want to remain stock, by all means… seek out a 144 or 170. Get a serviceable block rebuilt to specs, install it and enjoy your car. What would I do? Seriously look at installing a modern 302. Why? For the power gain & economy, it’ll be worth it. Far more HP and far better mileage. It will weigh more than a stock 6 but you can easily overcome that by beefing up the suspension of the car. The good news? Plenty of parts are available to swap in this engine. The downside? You’ll probably have to swap the trans out too… but again, to me it would be worth it. Your car, properly modified, will be so much more enjoyable to drive… good grief. I can almost feel a 302 backed by a T5 at my fingertips. Anyway, that’s just an idea.

Here’s the “more” I promised. What to do about getting a stock engine? You live in California. Lucky you. Tons of parts suppliers in CA. If I were you, I’d contact all the suppliers I could find near you, in state or on the west coast. Also check these:

What you’re looking for is an outfit that has REAL cars as opposed to just brand new parts. They’ll most likely have some spare engines laying around that you could purchase. NW Falcon would be a good bet. I will also say… that you should consult your local parts suppliers. Old parts yards often have old parts laying around. Be sure to exhaust every local business first… then move farther away as needed. Also pay attention to anyone that deals with other Fords such as the Econoline, Fairlane, Ranchero, Comet, etc. Why? Those cars also used the 144 & 170 in the early 60s. Best wishes!

Q: 1964 Ford Falcon Futura engine size?
I had a straight Falcon with a straight 6 a couple of years ago and it had a 170. I just bought a 1964 4-door Futura for $500 and need to rebuild the carb and was wondering if it comes stock with a 170 or a 200. I didn’t see it on the engine and can’t find out online.

A: Serious vibration problems, especially at high speeds, are almost always associated with wheels or front end. Get your wheels balanced and your front end aligned then see if you still have vibration problems.

I recently purchased a 1964 Ford Falcon Futura for my first car and it is in beautiful condition for the age and for the price. The only two problems that I have is that the windshield has a crack in it and the headliner needs to be replaced. I have a new windshield and a new headliner but don’t know of any places in Eugene/Springfield Oregon area that can replace both of these items. I have no idea how to do this and i wanted it professionally done anyways. Are there any places that anyone might know of for this? Please?

hey i have a 1964 ford falcon and i took the straight 6 out and out a 302 in it the 302 has 400 HP and a c4 tranny…. it is built i am jus wondering about the wiring.. i want to make sure its rite cuz can afford to have nothin wired wrong… can sombody give me information on the wiring… please…..

A: The wiring will be essentially the same on the V8 vs. the V6. Alternator, ignition and so fourth don’t change.
Be glad it’s a 1964 – this wiring is relatively simple compared to the newer electronic vehicles.

A: I don’t want to heart your feelings butt most people want 2 door falcons. well any old fixer up car that is. look on e bay and compare what they have to what you have. that should give you a good idea what its worth.
